I Dragged Him To The Exam And He Destroyed My Future For Her Chapter 05

The day scores came out, my phone wouldn’t stop ringing.

Lily’s call was the first one. “Megan, what did you get?”

“1480.”

There was a long silence on the other end.

“I… got 1090.” Her voice instantly dropped. “I didn’t even finish the first exam. After that, everything fell apart.”

I didn’t say anything.

“I could have definitely gotten into a top-tier school.” She choked up. “Megan, I hate Chad so much.”

After hanging up, I noticed I’d been added back into the group chat.

The tone was completely different from when I’d left.

[I missed an entire exam. I have no school to go to now. Chad, say something!]

[Skylar, you were twenty-five minutes late. Do you realize you ruined it for forty people?]

[Chad wouldn’t let us get off and run. Now where is he? Playing dead?]

Hunter posted a long message that ended with: [Megan told us in the chat to get off and run. Chad said no. He said there’d be a make-up, that was a damn lie. I could have gone to a Division 1 sports program. Now I’m stuck at a community college.]

Replies flooded in below.

[Megan was right. We should have listened to her.]

[It’s Chad and Skylar’s fault.]

[And Quentin, that little suck-up, backing up Chad the whole time.]

Quentin left the group.

Chad stayed but didn’t say anything.

Skylar finally posted: [I already said I was sorry. I didn’t mean to be late. You can’t put all the blame on me…]

[If you hadn’t been late, would Chad have blocked the bus?]

[If you hadn’t been late, would we have been stuck in traffic?]

[What good does your sorry do? Can you give me back my score?]

Skylar didn’t reply.

I scrolled through all the messages, then muted the group.

At the end of July, admission results came out.

I got my acceptance letter from Ashford University, a top-fifty-in-the-state school. With my 1480 SAT score, I was ranked in the top 5% in the state.

With my memories from my last life and going all out, I filled every regret I’d ever had.

As for my former classmates? Hunter ended up at a local community college, his dream of a sports career shattered.

Lily barely scraped into a second-tier school, a whole tier below her target.

The twenty-plus people who missed an exam? Most chose to take a gap year and prep again. A few just went straight to work.

Chad scored 1180 and got into an average second-tier school.

Skylar? She scored 950 and didn’t even meet the cutoff for a second-tier school.

Word was she was going to take a gap year.

I took a photo of my acceptance letter and posted it on my Instagram story.

Lots of likes, some congratulations in the comments, and a few sour ones too.

Chad didn’t like it, but I knew he saw it.

Less than ten minutes after I posted, he messaged me privately.

[Megan, congratulations.]

I glanced at it and didn’t reply.

[I know you’re still mad at me. But about the exam… I didn’t know there would be traffic.]

[I honestly thought waiting was fine.]

[Can we talk?]

I closed the chat and muted his messages.

September. I dragged my suitcase through the gates of Ashford University.

New city. New start.

In my last life, Chad and I went to the same university and stayed together for four years, then he destroyed me with his own hands.

This life? My university had no Chad, no Skylar, no familiar faces from high school.

But I couldn’t shake a feeling.

What happened in my last life would find me in this one too.
