When we got home, I searched through my things and found clothes my younger brother Evan Harper had left behind from a previous sleepover.

Xavier froze for a second, and something unreadable flickered through his eyes.

He pressed his thin lips together.

“Grace, if I wear another guy’s clothes, he won’t mind, right?”

I said, “?”

I explained, “They’re my brother Evan’s clothes.”

He looked straight at me, his voice sounding lazy and casual.

“Thanks, Grace.”

For a moment, I seemed to sense a possessive look in his eyes.

But it vanished quickly.

I did not think much of it and only urged him to take a hot shower.

Then I brought him a blanket and put it in the guest room.

Soon, water ran in the bathroom.

In the middle of it, I vaguely heard a strange sound.

I tested the air and asked, “Xavier, are you okay?”

After a long while, his voice finally came from inside.

It was a little too lazy.

“I’m fine, Grace. The body wash fell.”

I answered and still felt like something was strange.

By the time I finished making hot ginger tea, Xavier came out of the bathroom.

The pajamas were obviously 1 size too small.

The buttons across his chest had already been stretched open.

I said, “!!”

He looked at me pitifully and lowered his head.

“Sorry, Grace. I didn’t mean to break it.”

The remaining buttons did not last long either.

The next second, firm and defined muscle lines were fully exposed to the air.

I took a deep breath.

Eyes, behave.

Don’t act like you’ve never seen the world.

“Cough. This is the only set I have. Make do for now.”

He obediently hummed in agreement.

Suddenly, Sienna’s FaceTime popped up on my phone.

My hand moved too fast, and I answered directly.

“Babe, did you get home?”

“I’m at my layover.”

Seeing Xavier walk over like he was about to speak, I lunged forward and clapped a hand over his mouth.

I rushed too hard and shoved him straight down onto the couch.

I warned him with my eyes not to talk.

He blinked, and his breathing deepened noticeably.

Sienna’s voice came from the phone.

“Gracie, what’s going on?”

“By the way, I sent you my cousin’s contact. Remember to accept it, okay?”

I quickly responded, “Okay, I’ll accept it right away.”

The next second, something wet brushed against my palm.

My scalp went numb instantly.

I glared fiercely at the boy pinned under me, whose mouth I was still forcibly covering.

My eyes warned him not to lick.

He lowered his eyes, his long black lashes trembling slightly.

He looked so obedient, as if nothing had happened.

Sienna’s topic circled back to her cousin, and she seriously began listing the 10 biggest advantages of an older gentleman.

Suddenly, a hand appeared on my waist.

The world spun.

The next second, everything turned upside down.

Xavier and I had completely switched positions.

The phone fell to the side, its screen still lit.

I swallowed my scream by force.

After all, I was on FaceTime.

Dignity might be useless, but it could still be rescued.

Xavier’s gaze darkened.

His hot breath brushed past my ear.

He spoke slowly and quietly.

“Grace, a roach almost crawled onto you just now. It was an emergency.”

I nodded with lingering fear.

LA roaches did indeed justify emergency evacuation.

I ended the call with Sienna at lightning speed.

Only after I breathed out did I belatedly realize how wrong our current position was.

I scrambled to get up.

But when I lifted my head, I slammed straight into his chest.

So hard.
