I Called Myself Ten Years Later—and Exposed My Cheating Boyfriend Chapter 07

My parents heard the yelling and rushed over. They pulled me away without a word.

“Mom, we’re cutting ties with Julian’s family. We gave them everything, and they’d turn on us the second it worked for them. And Audrey if she shows up at our door, don’t let her in.”

My mom didn’t ask questions. She already knew enough.

She sent out invitations for my college send–off party to everyone even the doorman got one. Everyone except Julian and Audrey.

Everyone who came already knew Julian and Audrey had bombed their exams. Nobody brought them up around me.

But the second the last guest left, Julian showed up. He should’ve already been packing for his new

campus.

He was holding a bouquet of ice–blue roses.

I’d seen that color online a while back, before exams. I thought they were gorgeous and showed him

right away.

He’d made me a promise that day. “When we get into Bramford, I’ll be the first one to hand you these flowers at your party.”

I got into Bramford. But he didn’t have the nerve to show up while anyone was watching. He waited

until I was alone.

He held the flowers out to me. “I picked through every bouquet in the shop. These were the best. Congratulations, Chloe.”

I didn’t take them. I looked at him and said nothing.

“Don’t bother.”

Julian pushed the bouquet into my hands anyway.

“I’ve had a lot of time to think. Switching those pens was the worst thing I’ve ever done. At least it only backfired on me and Audrey. At least it didn’t ruin your life. I know I messed up. I really do.”

My mind went somewhere else for a second.

I thought about the video call. The one that had connected to my future self. Future–me had barely

been able to say his name without shaking.

Julian had no idea. In another timeline, all of this had actually happened to me.

If I hadn’t gotten that warning, I’d be the one with a destroyed future right now. He wasn’t sorry because he’d hurt me. He was sorry because he’d been caught.

“I’m begging you. One more chance.”

I stared at him in disbelief. I didn’t think he’d actually have the nerve to ask.

“One year of long–distance. I swear I’ll transfer into Bramford.”

I laughed – the kind of laugh that meant nothing was funny. I threw the bouquet in his face.

“Who do you think you are? Why would I wait for you?”

“The pens are the thing you regret most? What about kissing Audrey behind the bleachers?”

“What was that — an accident?”

“Tell me you don’t have feelings for her. Say it to my face.”

Julian opened his mouth again, but I cut him off. I already knew what he’d say.

“Save it. I don’t want your excuses.‘

“Whether you transfer in or drop out entirely – that’s your problem, not mine.”

Julian didn’t fight back. He just bent down and picked the flowers off the ground.

“Okay. I’ll go.”

“But keep the flowers. I owe you that much.”

u couldn’t make this right in a hundred lifetimes. Keep the flowers.”

Julian stopped showing up.

transferred to one of those strict prep schools for a post–graduate year – barely got one

d off a month. I didn’t ask for details.

tarted packing for Bramford,

Two months ago, I’d been picturing the three of us on the couch right now, eating pizza and

celebrating together. Now it was just me.

Life had a sick sense of humor.

I was still sitting there with that thought when someone knocked on the door. Ms.
