I Back to the Future, My Alpha Regrets Me in the Past Chapter 05

Ryan thought he was hallucinating. He stumbled backward, shaken.

“Am I dreaming in broad daylight? I tied those knots so tight. How could she possibly get free?”

Unease coiled tighter and tighter in his chest.

I didn’t have that kind of strength. Not even close.

And if I’d walked out, wouldn’t I have seen them?

Panic and dread surging through him, Ryan rushed to the restaurant’s front desk.

He was breathless when he got there, his voice trembling.

“I need to see your security footage. Now.”

But the footage made even less sense.

From the time I arrived until now, there was no trace of me. Not a single frame.

He grabbed the front desk Omega by the collar.

“Is your system broken? How is that possible?”

He scrambled to find the camera feed from the private room.

Finally, in one corner of the frame, he saw it. I vanished in an instant. One second there, the next gone from this world entirely.

“Impossible! That’s impossible! Am I losing my mind?”

He dialed my number in a frenzy. The call wouldn’t connect.

He tried to pull up my Instagram. Gone. Like it never existed.

Mason had deleted everything when he sent me back. I didn’t belong to this era. Leaving digital traces behind would only disrupt the timeline.

From this moment forward, I no longer existed in this world.

Ryan couldn’t process it.

It was as if I had never existed at all.

A terror he’d never felt before consumed him. He destroyed every table and chair in the room.

“What kind of trash restaurant can’t even maintain their security system!”

He kept smashing, harder and harder.

Zoe tried to stop him. He shoved her to the ground.

“Ryan, what is wrong with you?”

When he saw the scrape on Zoe’s hand, he hesitated.

In the end, he bandaged it.

“I’m sorry. I lost control. But if I can’t find Rachel, my wolf is going to tear me apart.”

Zoe cupped his face.

“Ryan, isn’t having me enough? I said before I’d only be your mate for a few years, but what if I stayed with you forever? Would that help?”

Before, that would have made Ryan happy.

But now, he didn’t want Zoe by his side forever.

If she stayed, I would eventually find out.

And he wanted to spend his life with me.

Suddenly, all the good things came rushing back.

Me bringing him an umbrella in the rain.

Knitting him a scarf in subzero weather.

Pulling the blanket over him on countless late nights.

Yes. He realized it with devastating clarity. The one he loved most was me.

He couldn’t lose me.

He shoved Zoe aside and ran to the lobby, demanding to see the manager.

“Get your manager out here! Your cameras are obviously broken!”

When the manager didn’t appear, he destroyed the lobby too.

Finally, the staff restrained him.

“You’re destroying our property and disturbing our customers. Get out. Now. Either pay for the damages or spend a few nights in pack security holding. Your choice.”

Ryan didn’t hear a word. He fought the security guards like a man possessed.

“You have to find Rachel for me! She disappeared in your restaurant! That makes it your responsibility!”

He was beaten to the ground.

In the end, Ryan lay there like a man with nothing left to live for, letting them kick him without resistance.

Zoe rushed to his side, her face full of heartbreak.

“Ryan, are you okay? Your eyes and face are swollen. Let’s go to the pack hospital, please?”

“Ryan, open your eyes and look at me. I’ll call an ambulance.”

Ryan waved her off weakly.

“Don’t bother. I’m going back to the pack house. Maybe Rachel’s already there. Maybe she’s waiting for me.”

At the sound of my name, Zoe’s expression darkened.

But she couldn’t fight him on this. She drove him home.

The second they walked through the door, Ryan was shouting my name.

“Rachel! Rachel! Are you here?”

He ran to the bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen…

No sign of me anywhere.

But nothing in the house had been touched.

Not even my clothes. I hadn’t taken a single thing.

He checked once. Twice. Three times. Nothing of mine was missing.

Then he laughed to himself, manic and desperate.

“See? I knew it. Rachel would never leave me. She didn’t take anything. She’ll be back soon.”

Zoe rubbed his temples, trying to soothe him.

“Ryan, then stop worrying about her. I’m sure she’ll come back. She’s probably just throwing a tantrum, trying to get your attention.”

But something in Ryan snapped. He couldn’t stand hearing Zoe talk about me.

“Don’t you dare talk about her like that. You’re nothing but my mate in name. She’s the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

Zoe’s face went blank. She hadn’t expected that.

“Ryan, what are you saying? I chose to be your mate, and this is how you treat me? What do you mean the one you want to be with is Rachel? Was mating me something you were forced into?”

Ryan hung his head. His mind had no room for Zoe’s questions. All he could think about was why I hadn’t come home yet.

“I never had real feelings for you. I just wanted to fulfill a promise I made to you a long time ago. You got what you wanted, but this was always temporary.”

“Let’s dissolve our mate bond soon. Rachel and I are true fated mates.”

“Dissolve our mate bond?”
