Since my father arrived, Adrian and the others had not said a single word.

They had watched the once-untouchable daughter of the Prescott family kneel in front of me and beg for

mercy.

They had watched the richest man in Riverton kneel before my father.

By now, they must have understood why Adrian’s business had always gone so smoothly.

Unfortunately, they understood far too late.

Adrian’s snobbish mother was as pale as paper, trembling all over. She had believed the Prescott family stood above everyone else, only to watch them collapse in an instant before the Ashford family.

At that moment, she finally understood why I had never been afraid of Sienna. She came closer, trying to grab my hand, but I avoided her.

Panicked, she immediately glanced at Bianca.

Bianca hurriedly said, “Evelyn, we had no choice. Sienna said that if Adrian refused to marry her, she would

come after all of us.”

“We’re best friends. We’ve always been best friends. If I hadn’t been forced into a corner, how could I ever

hurt you?”

Adrian quickly took two steps toward me as well. “Evelyn, you’re the one I’ve always loved most. I just really couldn’t afford to offend Sienna.”

“If you had told me earlier that your father was this powerful, I never would have let Sienna pressure me like

I only looked at him calmly. “Sienna was dragged to the lake. As one of the people involved, what do you think will happen to you?”

The color drained from Adrian’s face.

His mother quickly said, “Evelyn, you’re pregnant, and that child is Adrian’s too.”

“A child shouldn’t come into this world without a father. Adrian knows he was wrong. He’ll spend the rest of his life making it up to you.”

Adrian dropped to his knees. “I know I was wrong. I really do. Even if I was threatened, it was still my fault

for not having the courage to protect you.”

“But please believe me. I will never make the same mistake again.”

“I’ll take good care of you and the baby. I swear I will.”

I lowered my eyes and looked at him. “You don’t know you were wrong. You only know you’re scared.”

“As for my child’s father, during this pregnancy, if I decide my child needs a father, I can find one anytime.

You don’t need to worry about that.”

Adrian still wanted to speak, but I looked at my father and said, “I’m tired.”

Then I walked out.

Behind me, only the three of them remained in the room, begging for mercy.

The helicopter lifted into the sky, and Riverton grew smaller and smaller beneath me.

If Adrian had truly loved me, he would have been standing beside me, looking down at this city. He would have stood at the top with me and helped shape the world below.

But life did not run on ifs.

“Dad, I want to start a foundation to help women who have been trapped the way I almost was.”

Not everyone had a background like mine. I knew there had to be many women in this world who had been wronged with no one powerful enough to protect them.

I wanted to use whatever power I had to help them find a way out.

Good people, and people who loved sincerely should never be betrayed. As for the heartless ones who betrayed them, they deserved to be punished.

“In the future, you’ll need to learn how to manage the family. When the time comes, the family legacy will pass to your child, so what you do with it is up to you.”

After my father spoke, I looked up toward the distance.

It seemed I was going to be very busy from now on.
