I took out my phone, then tossed my bag at Adrian.

“Go ahead. Search it thoroughly.”

Adrian handed the bag to Sienna.

Sienna opened it and said, “Everything in here was bought with Adrian’s money, wasn’t it?”

“Including this bag. Adrian must have bought it for you, so you can’t take it.”

“And your phone.”

“And the clothes you’re wearing.”

She looked at me with open provocation. “If you really have that much backbone, then leave everything behind.”

I looked at Adrian.

He only looked at Sienna with open indulgence and said, “Do as Sienna says.”

He had once looked at me with that same depth of feeling, but the moment Sienna returned, everything changed.

Without another word, I set down my phone and went back to the bedroom.

Before long, I changed into the custom wedding gown my family had commissioned for me.

I never thought I would leave this house in the same gown I had worn when I entered it.

When I stepped out of the bedroom, something flickered through Adrian’s eyes.

On our wedding day, he had said I was the most beautiful woman in the world, like something out of heaven.

I did not know what he was thinking now. Maybe if he could, he would have kept both of us and everything else too.

I pulled myself back to the present and looked straight at him. “This dress has nothing to do with you, does it?”

“I didn’t buy that,” he said, as if he needed to explain himself to Sienna.

Sienna’s face darkened. Clearly, she had wanted to humiliate me by forcing me to leave barely dressed.

Then she pointed at my necklace. “I like that necklace. Are you really going to let her take it?”

Adrian would not even look me in the eye. “Leave the necklace here.”

Today, I had confirmed my pregnancy. It should have been a day worth celebrating.

Even when Adrian asked for a divorce, I had not planned to burn everything down today. But I had not expected him to keep pushing.

That necklace was the eighteenth-birthday gift my father had prepared for me. He had used the finest materials and commissioned one of the top jewelers in the world to make it.

I had worn it for years, and it was my premarital property. Adrian knew that better than anyone.

“Adrian Hale, don’t mistake my restraint for weakness. What does this necklace have to do with you?”

“How could it have nothing to do with him?” Adrian’s mother walked in from outside. “Evelyn Ashford, now you’re just being unreasonable.Everything in this house exists because Adrian worked for it.”

“So why does it suddenly have nothing to do with him when it comes to you?”

“You’ve lived off Adrian all these years, and he hasn’t even asked you to pay any of that back in the divorce.”

“It’s just one necklace, yet you’re insulting him and telling him not to push his luck? From where I’m standing, you’re the one who doesn’t know when to stop.”

“Take it off and give it to Sienna.”

I ignored her and kept my eyes on Adrian.

“Adrian, I’m asking you one last time. Does this necklace have anything to do with you?”
