His Last Mistake Was Letting Me Go Chapter 07

The people stepping out of those black SUVS were no ordinary guests. Harold recognized several of the cars,

and he quickly got up to greet them.

He stepped forward with a smile, but they only exchanged a few polite words with him before quietly lifting

their heads to look at the helicopters overhead.

Harold stared at the circling helicopters in confusion, and a trace of unease began to rise in him.

Soon, the helicopters landed nearby.

The people from the Humvees and black SUVS immediately hurried over.

Charles Ashford, my father, walked forward in silence, his face cold.

Everyone else fell in around him, and no one dared to speak.

I could see sweat already gathering on many of their faces.

Harbld did not know who my father was, but when he saw the way those people from the Audis behaved

around him, panic finally began to show in his eyes.

Before long, my father entered the room.

He saw me.

He saw the blood at the corner of my mouth.

The moment I saw him, all the hurt I had been forcing down finally broke free.

“Dad…”

I only managed to say that one word before tears spilled down my face.

My father walked quickly to my side and gently wiped the blood at the corner of my mouth.

“Does it hurt?”

“It hurts… and I was scared.”

Yes, I had been scared.

I had truly been afraid I would not be able to protect this child. I had been afraid Sienna and the others would hurt me before my father arrived.

All that composure from earlier had been nothing but a mask. Now that my father was here, I could finally let go of the strength I had been pretending to have.

For a moment, the only voices in the room were mine and my father’s.

No one else dared to breathe too loudly. The people who had arrived from the Audis, in particular, lowered their heads the moment they saw the blood on my mouth.

Sweat slid down their faces and fell to the floor.

By then, Harold was already losing his composure.

He was the richest man in Riverton, and even now, he still did not know who my father was. But he knew exactly who the people terrified by my father’s arrival were.

They were the people who truly ran Riverton, people even he had to look up to.

After a while, when my tears finally stopped, my father turned to one of the men at the scene.

“Is there no law left in Riverton?”
