His Ex Wore My Ring, So I Married His Rival Instead Chapter 08

Linda’s sharp, spiteful voice came from the recording.

“I’ve never liked that Olivia Bennett! Her parents aren’t even coming to the wedding. They’re probably some small-town nobodies she’s too embarrassed to introduce! I never would’ve agreed to this if Brandon hadn’t insisted on marrying her.”

“Vanessa, my son is going to be a director at Bennett Financial Group. Now that you’re pregnant, find a way to stop this wedding and marry him yourself.”

Katie’s voice came next.

“Vanessa, my brother still has photos of you. He still has feelings for you. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have slept with you in your tent that day.”

“Here’s what you do. Provoke Olivia at the wedding and make my brother choose you. If it works, our family will give you a wedding gift. How does that sound?”

When the recording ended, Brandon stood frozen.

“Mom, how could you do this? You were scheming from the start to get Vanessa and me back

together!”

The relatives seemed baffled by it all. Some began to laugh.

“They thought Olivia wasn’t good enough for their family, but she was the reason their son had money in the first place.”

“Now she won’t marry him, and suddenly they’re sorry.”

Brandon quickly turned to me. “Olivia, you heard it too. I’m a victim here! I didn’t know they were

behind all this!”

“You’re a victim?” I looked at him blankly. “Would they have dared treat me that way if you hadn’t kept letting them get away with it?”

“You let Katie call Vanessa her future sister-in-law. You sided with her over the wedding limo, and

you let Vanessa wear my ring. Just now, you tried to force me to donate blood.”

“Brandon, don’t you think it’s ridiculous to call yourself a victim?”

The officers finished watching the footage and turned to them.

“The footage hasn’t been edited. Everyone involved in the assault needs to come with us.”

Katie immediately burst into tears. “We wouldn’t have touched Olivia if Vanessa hadn’t accused her

pushing her! Officer, Vanessa was the one who made the false accusation! Arrest her!”

Vanessa shouted back, refusing to back down. “I accused her first? Are you pretending you didn’t hear that recording? You’re the one who encouraged me to accuse her! And what about the Haby I’m carrying? Did I make that up too?”

She clutched at Brandon’s clothes.

“I’m carrying your baby. Your family can’t just abandon me! If you’re going to walk away, pay me $100,000 first! Brandon’s worked at Bennett Financial Group long enough. He should have that

much saved!”

The tenderness vanished from his face. The longer he looked at her, the more impatient he became.

“Vanessa, I’m about to lose my job, and you’re asking me for money?”

She glared at him. “Is losing your job my fault? Brandon, do you think I would’ve come back if I hadn’t heard you were working at Bennett Financial Group? I left you because you were a useless

loser!”

Enraged, Brandon grabbed her hair.

“What did you say? Say it again!”

Listening to them blame each other, I suddenly felt tired.

I turned and took Alexander’s hand. “Thank you for coming to get me. Let’s go get married.”

He nodded, then addressed the officers. “Thank you for your help.”

He turned and led me away.

Brandon tried to follow, but the officers stopped him.

“Please cooperate with the investigation.”
