After Matteo was discharged from the hospital, he returned to New York.

Following that kiss Ava and Rafael officially began dating.

They spent nearly every day together.

They never ran out of things to talk about, shared the same interests, and understood each other

effortlessly.

After work, they walked hand in hand through streets glowing beneath the sunset, searching for scenes worth painting.

Ava finally understood that this was what happiness felt like.

A year passed quickly.

Then Ava had to return to New York for a business trip.

Rafael insisted he didn’t mind, but secretly booked a ticket on the same flight.

Ava sighed helplessly.

“It’s only a work trip.”

After being caught on the spot, Rafael removed his sunglasses, revealing his lake-green eyes.

His ears turned slightly red, but he still insisted, “I just want to see the place where you used to live.”

They stared at each other for a moment before Ava finally gave in.

After returning to New York, Ava still heard news about Matteo.

He drank heavily every day and had become grim and withdrawn.

He had even publicly rejected a marriage arranged by the Family.

Ava didn’t care.

Holding Rafael’s hand, she headed toward the steakhouse she had once loved most.

Rafael was strikingly handsome.

Even with Ava beside him, plenty of women kept glancing his way and even slipped him notes with their

phone numbers.

Ava traced her finger across his palm and teased, “Famous artist, you’re awfully popular…”

Rafael looked aggrieved.

“You know you’re the only wornan I love.”

“And no matter how hard Ltry, I can’t get rid of all your admirers in Melbourne.”

Ava laughed and leaned against him.

Suddenly, someone ran across the street with several police officers close behind.

The woman wore a psychiatric facility patient uniform.

Her hair was dry and tangled, and her body was covered in grime.

As she was about to crash into them, Rafael frowned, pulled Ava behind him, and tripped the woman.

The officers immediately restrained her.

As she struggled, her face emerged from beneath her tangled hair.

Ava froze.

“Mia?”

Mia went rigid.

Her cloudy eyes locked on Ava.

Then she suddenly broke free from the officers and lunged straight at her.

Rafael reacted instantly and kicked her to the ground.

Mia screamed, “Why, Ava? Why do you get to live so well? Why does everyone love you?”

The officers restrained her again and forced her into the police car.

Ava stood still as Rafael led her away.

The smile slowly faded from her face.

Rafael already knew everything she had endured.

He tightened his grip on her hand.

“None of that was your fault.”

Ava nodded and smiled at him.

“Don’t worry. I’m okay.”
