His Disabled Sweetheart Stole My Wedding, I Wed His Rival Chapter 05

Chapter 5 Headed for the Ceremony

Everyone turned toward the commotion.

Kane saw who it was and stiffened.

“Jaylen? What the hell are you doing here?”

Seeing his long-time rival, Kane looked instantly annoyed.

“What now? Stealing clients isn’t enough? You had to crash my wedding too?”

Jaylen ignored him completely. He walked straight up to my parents, handed each of them a small gift bag, and greeted them calmly, “Dad. Mom.”

Kane snapped, “What is wrong with you? Why are you calling them that?”

But then he saw my parents accept the gifts.

His expression tightened hard. He grabbed Jaylen by the arm.

“What the hell are you playing at?”

Time kept ticking, and the car still hadn’t moved.

I frowned, irritated, and pushed the door open.

“Kane, have you made enough of a scene?”

The moment he saw me, Kane let go of Jaylen and went right back to his smug self.

“Since it’s my wedding day and Anastasia just stepped in, I’ll let it go. But try this again, and I won’t be so nice.”

After threatening Jaylen, Kane stepped toward me, reaching for my hand.

“Come on, sweetheart. Let’s go.”

I stepped back, disgusted.

Kane froze for a second and finally looked up at me.

Only then did he notice the way I was staring at him-colder than usual, cold enough to make anyone flinch.

“Anastasia…”

Something seemed to click in his head.

I stepped past him and slipped my arm through Jaylen’s.

A crack went through Kane’s expression. His eyes went red almost instantly as he barked, “Get over here, Anastasia.”

I let out a small, mocking smile.

“On my wedding day? Why would I walk over to anyone who isn’t my groom?”

“I’m not your groom?” He practically ground the words out.

I leaned lightly against Jaylen’s arm.

“Don’t talk nonsense. I’d hate for my future husband to get jealous.”

I even turned to Jaylen and shot him a playful wink.

That pushed Kane over the edge. He lunged forward, trying to grab my arm, but Jaylen stopped him with a hand on his wrist.

“We’re engaged. When did your ‘future husband’ become someone else? Funny how I didn’t get the memo.”

Kane looked like he was about to explode.

I met his glare, my voice cutting cold.

“Are you out of your mind? I already sent your engagement gifts back yesterday.

“Or did you forget? Your sweet Kaleigh even came to my house to take back every gift you gave me over the last five years.”

A wave of murmurs rippled through the crowd.

“Wow, seriously? Who asks for all the gifts back after a breakup? What kind of bargain-bin cheapskate does that?”

“Honestly, good thing Anastasia changed her groom when she did. Marrying a guy like that? Total nightmare.”

“For real. And he sent the other woman to get his stuff back? That’s just gross.”

Kane’s face went stiff.

“I… Anastasia, that’s not what I meant,” he stammered. “I wasn’t trying to take anything back.”

When Anastasia sent everything to his place yesterday, he had panicked for a moment. He had actually thought about coming over to explain.

But Kaleigh stopped him. She had held onto his arm and told him he absolutely could not go, because going to Anastasia first would make it look like he was begging.

She had said it softly, “Anastasia already accepted your proposal. The invitations are already out. She’s just upset and wants you to go talk to her. If you give in now, you’ll be giving in for the rest of your marriage.

“You can’t spoil her too much. Once you do, she’ll walk all over you.”

Caught between panic and pride, Kane hesitated, then chose to listen to Kaleigh.

He let the engagement gifts be sent back. He let Kaleigh show up at my door to take back every gift he had ever given me.

He assumed I was just throwing a tantrum.

In his mind, I was going to marry him anyway, so he would just “hold on” to everything for me and give it back once I moved in.

He never imagined it would turn into this.

He rushed forward and grabbed my hand.

“No, Anastasia, listen, I wasn’t actually ending things. I just… I just went along with what Kaleigh said. I thought it’d scare you into backing down. I wasn’t serious. I swear I wasn’t…”

He kept mumbling the same thing, over and over.

Jaylen grabbed his wrist and yanked his hand off me.

“Mr. Jones, back up. You’re touching my wife.”

Kane snapped and grabbed Jaylen by the collar.

“Who the hell do you think you are? Anastasia and I have known each other for years. This has nothing to do with you!”

His fists clenched so hard the veins stood out.

“Enough, Kane. Who do you think you are?”

I stepped forward, shoved him aside, and stood between them.

“What did you just say?”

Kane stared at me like he couldn’t believe it.

I looked him dead in the eye.

“What? You didn’t hear me? Then let me make it clearer. The moment you went behind my back yesterday and married Kaleigh, and even used the venue I spent weeks choosing and the custom dress I had made, we were finished.

“I meant what I said, Kane. I don’t forgive betrayal. I don’t care what excuse you think you have. It only makes me sick.”

He froze for a second, then fumbled for his phone.

“Then what about this? The invitation email you sent me this morning.”

“You didn’t open it? It was for Jaylen and me.”

I added, “Oh, and I already told all my friends and family yesterday that the groom and the venue changed. You might want to explain things to your side too. Otherwise your mother will keep calling me, and I really don’t have the patience for that.”

Kane tapped the screen with shaking hands. When he finally opened the invitation, he had no choice but to believe me.

His fingers were still trembling, his eyes red.

“So to get back at me, you could’ve picked anyone… but you chose Jaylen? You know what he and I…”

“Not my problem.”

Time was almost up. I wasn’t wasting another second on him.

I slipped my arm through Jaylen’s.

“Babe, let’s go.”

“Gladly.”

Jaylen bent down and scooped me right up.

He took a few sure steps forward with me in his arms, and as he passed Kane, he tossed out, “Thanks, man. I’ve had my eye on her for a long time.”

I had to admit, the man had a real talent for getting under someone’s skin. He was way better at it than I was.

Jaylen carried me into the car.

Surrounded by cheers from friends and family, we headed for the ceremony.

Under the officiant’s lead, we stood facing each other, said our vows, and said our I do’s.

Then we exchanged rings.

The guests started chanting from below the stage.

“Kiss, kiss, kiss!”

I froze for half a second. Then something warm brushed against my lips.

Jaylen… kissed me.

My eyes flew open. I stared at him.

We were too close. Close enough to see myself reflected in his eyes.

My heart took off like it wanted out of my chest.

And, embarrassingly, my face heated up.

So much for keeping it an act.
