His Disabled Sweetheart Stole My Wedding, I Wed His Rival Chapter 04

Chapter 4 I Was Marrying Jaylen, Not Kane

She wrapped both hands around my neck, her face twisted.

“You think you’re better than me, don’t you? You look down on me because I’m in a chair, and now you get to act all high and mighty.

“Believe it or not, all I have to do is say a few words to Kane, and you two will never get married.”

I couldn’t breathe. Instinct kicked in and I shoved her off with everything I had.

She flew back, hit the floor, and her forehead slammed into the corner of the table.

A sharp yelp burst out.

“Kaleigh!”

Kane came out of nowhere, scooped her into his arms, and shot me a vicious look.

“Anastasia, I never thought you could be this cruel. Kaleigh is the kindest person I know, and you still went after her. Do you even have a heart?”

I bullied her? I almost laughed.

“Kane, get the story straight. She showed up at my house demanding I return the gifts you gave me.”

I swallowed the anger in my chest, pulled off the earrings, and tossed them back at him.

Then I ran upstairs, grabbed the box the staff had already packed, and shoved the whole thing into his arms.

“These are all the gifts you gave me over the five years we were together. They’re all here.

“Whatever I gave you, keep it. I don’t even remember anymore. Let’s just walk away clean.”

Kane froze for a second.

“Kaleigh, you…”

Kaleigh’s face was pale, her eyes brimming with tears.

“Kane, I only wanted to help you get your gifts back. I didn’t know Anastasia would get so

upset. It’s my fault. Don’t blame her.”

The moment she said that, whatever softness Kane had started to show vanished again.

“Anastasia, are you done yet? Kaleigh was only thinking of me. Did you really need to make such a scene?”

I hadn’t even snapped yet, and my mom was already losing her patience.

She shoved the two of them toward the door.

“Are you done? Get out. Take your things and get out. Stay away from my daughter.”

“Mrs. Sweet, I’ll come early tomorrow to pick Anastasia up.”

Kane threw one last look at me before my mom pushed him out.

He probably thought that since the wedding date was already set and the invitations had already gone out, I would never walk away.

Too bad for him. He guessed wrong.

Early the next morning, Jaylen sent over a custom wedding dress along with a full set of diamond jewelry.

The makeup artist did my makeup and, with my friends around me, I took my dad’s arm and walked toward the front door.

The car that was taking me to the venue was already waiting outside.

Jaylen’s assistant told me he had been held up and would get here a little later.

I got into the car and waited.

Suddenly, there was a sharp screech of brakes outside. Kane got out of his car, his voice already full of anger.

“Mr. Sweet, you’re sending Anastasia to my house without telling me first?

“So that’s the plan? Bring her over while everyone’s here so I have no choice but to accept her?”

Silence fell.

People stared at him in shock.

Kane did not notice at all. He kept going, “Since you’re the one trying to smooth things over, I’ll let yesterday slide. Fine. I won’t make a big deal out of what happened with Kaleigh. And honestly, no one but me would marry you anyway.

“Come on. Let’s go.”

Everyone there knew I was marrying Jaylen today, not Kane.

No one even knew where to start correcting him.

They just looked at one another, confused.

Acting like he had every right to be there, Kane walked up and pulled the car door open.

He had just lifted one foot to get in when my mom stepped in front of him.

Facing her cold, tight expression, he tried to smooth things over.

“Right. Yesterday got a little out of hand, but I still brought you a gift.

“Please take it, Mrs. Sweet.

My mom did not even reach for it.

“Mr. Jones, I’m afraid I can’t accept anything from you. You should take it back.”

“Mrs. Sweet, what’s that supposed to mean?”

Before anyone could answer, a stir ran through the crowd.

I heard someone say, “The groom’s here. Look, the groom’s coming with a huge bouquet of flowers.”
