His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 18

His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 18

After the family dinner, Zachary fell into a deep depression.

He didn’t go to the office for days, drinking himself into a stupor at his own bar.

Even when Lynn went to see him, he turned her away coldly.

As for me, I moved into Ethan’s penthouse and started living the life of a pampered princess.

My daily routine was swiping Ethan’s black card for shopping sprees and delivering homemade lunches to

the office – flaunting our affection in front of the entire staff.

That afternoon, as I was leaving the underground garage, someone blocked my path. Lynn.

She wasn’t wearing an ethereal white dress – she was in a sharp business suit, her makeup perfect, but

exhaustion and anxiety were clear in her eyes.

“Chloe, let’s talk.” She looked at me coldly.

I stopped and idly fiddled with my French manicure.

“Miss Moore, my boss is waiting for me upstairs. My time is expensive – I charge by the minute.”

Lynn clenched her jaw but held back.

She pulled a check from her purse and slapped it on the hood of the car.

“Ten million. Take it, leave Seattle, and never show your face to Ethan or Zachary again.”

I glanced at the check and almost laughed.

I pushed it back with two fingers.

“Ten million? That’s barely enough for two limited-edition handbags. Are you trying to buy me off with

pocket change – do you look down on me, or on your precious Ethan?”

“Don’t be greedy!” Lynn’s face was ashen.

“It’s not greed, it’s the market.” I smirked.

“You had no qualms about faking your death and fleeing the country for a better life. Now that you’ve

discovered Ethan is the real power, you want to come crawling back and kick me out of the way. Your schemes are so loud I can hear them from a mile away.”

Stung by the truth, Lynn raised her hand to slap me.

“You bitch!” But before she could, a hoarse voice rang out. “Stop!”

We both turned. Zachary stood at the garage corner, gaunt, reeking of alcohol, staring at Lynn with an unfamiliar expression. Her hand froze in mid-air. “Zachary… what are you doing here?”

Zachary ignored her panic. He dragged himself toward us, his eyes bloodshot with despair. “Faking your

death to go abroad… coming back to climb the social ladder…” His voice was like sandpaper. “Is it true? You

weren’t severely depressed. You’d already found someone else – I couldn’t give you enough power, could I?”

“No! That’s not true – let me explain!” Lynn lunged for his sleeve. “Chloe is lying! She’s jealous, trying to drive

a wedge between us!”

“Get lost!” Zachary swung his arm, sending her to the ground. He looked down at her, then suddenly covered

his face and let out a shrill, self-mocking laugh. “I’m such a fool. My life has been a complete joke.” He

laughed, but tears fell through his fingers. “I tormented myself over a deceitful woman. I mistreated

someone pure and devoted, using her as your substitute.”

Lynn’s face was ashen, trembling, unable to speak. Zachary slowly turned to me, his eyes full of regret, anguish, and faint pleading. “Chloe… I know I was wrong. Come back with me. I’ll give you all my assets. I’l

marry you. Tomorrow.”

I sighed. “It’s too late, Mr. Zachary. And your offer isn’t as high as your brother’s.”

Zachary froze, the last light in his eyes dying. “Think the price isn’t high enough?” A deep, icy voice came from the garage. Ethan had emerged from the private elevator. He wore an all-black suit, one hand in his pocket, his eyes like ice blades sweeping over Lynn and Zachary.

“Mr. Collins!” I ran to him like a lifeline. He wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me close, then looked

down at his brother.

“One last lesson, Zachary. I don’t bother with other people’s castoffs. But once I set my sights on someone, no one else touches them. Security, escort them out.”

Security guards rushed over and forcibly removed the distraught Zachary and the ashen-faced Lynn from the

garage.
