His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 02

His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 02

If Zachary wouldn’t go, I’d go myself.

I’d wanted to eat at this restaurant for ages, but reservations were impossible.

Just last week, when I was updating Ethan on Zachary’s recent situation, I asked offhand, “Mr. Collins, it’s so hard to get a reservation at that restaurant on the top floor of the Columbia Tower. Do you have any connections?”

Ethan put down his documents, looked up, and asked abruptly, “Have you mentioned this to Zachary?”

I replied, “He said if we can’t get a reservation, never mind — steakhouses are all the same. But that one has a really nice view, so I’m actually quite interested.”

Ethan took a sip of coffee with a cold expression.

Then he made a phone call.

The very next second, a reservation confirmation popped up on my phone.

“Miss Parker?” A man’s voice interrupted my wandering thoughts.

I set down my glass and looked over — it was the wedding planner I’d been in touch with.

I smiled politely. “You’re having dinner here too?”

He looked at me for a few seconds, cleared his throat, and asked quietly, “Are things still going well between you and Mr. Collins?”

“What?” I looked puzzled.

“Mr. Collins has contacted me. The wedding planning and decorations have been put on hold for now.” He paused. “Especially everything concerning the bride’s side.”

I understood his concerns and gave him a reassuring smile.

“Don’t worry. The wedding isn’t canceled.”

This was a big contract, and no one wanted to lose it.

The man paused, then his face lit up.

“In that case, congratulations in advance!”

The wedding definitely wasn’t canceled — the bride was just being replaced.

I didn’t explain further.

After the planner left, I fidgeted with my knife and fork.

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I caught two figures by the window.

I looked over and froze. Zachary. He was facing me, but his gaze never left the woman sitting across from him.

A slender silhouette.

The moment I saw her, I knew who she was.

I’d studied her photos countless times, learning every expression and gesture.

A waiter came by with my food.

I pointed toward that table.

“I’ve been trying to book that spot for ages. Did they pay extra?”

I was just making small talk — I didn’t really expect an answer.

But the waiter smiled.

“What can we do? This restaurant is part of Collins Group. That’s the boss’s son — he just has to say the word.”

I froze. So that was it.

When I mentioned it to Ethan, he’d given me an unreadable look, then made one call, and I had a reservation. Zachary couldn’t even be bothered to make that call.

I’d complained to him so many times about how hard it was to get into this place.

He’d just lazily pull me into his arms, play with my earlobe, and savor my disappointment.

“Poor thing. Can’t even eat the food you want.”

But he’d always treated me like that. No respect, no equality.

I was just a pet he could mold however he pleased.

For example, Zachary would never have a face-to-face meal with me.

He always preferred keeping me by his side and treating me however he pleased.

He wouldn’t be gentlemanly enough to pour me a drink or talk to me seriously.

He’d just hold his glass to my lips and say lazily, “Not drinking? Want me to feed it to you?”

I never really expected respect.

I’d always known my place.

But seeing it with my own eyes, I couldn’t help but feel a little sad.
