His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 14

The Collins family dinner was held at the old Collins estate in the hills outside Seattle.

That evening, I wore the burgundy velvet backless gown, my long hair in sweeping waves, and four-inch

red-soled heels.

I appeared beside Ethan’s Maybach.

The car window rolled down.

Ethan, in an exquisitely tailored black suit, looked up at me.

His gold-rimmed glasses reflected the night lights.

When his gaze fell on me, I sensed something flicker in his deep eyes – his breath even catching for a

moment.

“Mr. Collins, what do you think?” I flashed a professional smile. “Does it do justice to your black card?”

Ethan looked at me, his Adam’s apple bobbing.

“Get in,” he said, his voice a little hoarse.

The car drove through the ornate gates and stopped in front of the brightly lit mansion.

Ethan got out first, then walked around to open my door and offered me his arm.

I took a deep breath, slipped my arm through his, and walked inside.

The ballroom was filled with elegantly dressed guests and flickering candlelight.

The moment we stepped inside, the once-bustling hall fell silent.

All eyes were on us – or rather, on me, the woman who had once been Zachary’s “canary” but now stood

with the eldest son.

I spotted Zachary in the crowd.

He had been holding a wine glass, making small talk, but the moment he saw me, his hand froze.

The deep red dress accentuated my figure, my back glowing under the lights.

It completely overturned his memory of me as the quiet, timid imitation.

Zachary’s pupils contracted.

He stared at my hand in Ethan’s arm.

The wine glass in his hand made a faint crack, as if he were about to crush it.

Lynn, standing beside him, turned pale.

She had worn an ethereal white dress, but next to my bold red, she looked bland.

I leaned close to Ethan’s ear and whispered, “Mr. Collins, did you see Lynn’s face? I’ve maxed out her hatred for you tonight.”

Ethan glanced at me, then suddenly tilted his head, his warm lips brushing my ear.

“Good job,” he whispered. “Keep it up.”
