His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 12

His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 12

Ethan’s words cut deep, crushing Zachary’s pride.

Zachary’s face was deathly pale.

He stared at me, his eyes full of anger, resentment, and even a hint of panic.

“Chloe,” he said hoarsely, “are you really that low? Would you climb into anyone’s bed for money? Haven’t I

given you enough?”

I sighed inwardly.

Ten million a month was a lot, but his brother offered three times that no strings attached, no snide

remarks. Only a fool would refuse.

But in the script, I had to play a woman hardened by heartbreak.

I stepped out from behind Ethan, gazing coldly at Zachary with a mocking smile.

“That’s right. I’m only in it for the money.” I looked him in the eye.

“For three years, I played along – pretending to be in love, pretending to be obedient, pretending to be your

first love. Now that the real one is back, if I don’t find myself someone richer and more powerful, am I

supposed to wait for you to kick me out on the street?”

Zachary swayed, as if my words had drained his strength.

He seemed to want to argue, but couldn’t.

Lynn’s return was a fact, and his neglect of me was also a fact.

“Besides,” I tilted my head back and glanced at Ethan, my smile radiant and cruel, “Mr. Collins is more

mature, more level-headed, and even more generous than you. A smart person knows which side to pick.

Don’t you get it, Zachary?”

“You!” Zachary was so furious he saw red.

He lunged forward, ready to strike.

But Ethan was faster.

He pulled me into his arms, his other hand clamping down on Zachary’s wrist.

“Enough,” Ethan said, his voice dripping with authority.

“Don’t make me call security. If you can’t even protect your own woman, what right do you have to stand here

and run your mouth?”

Zachary shuddered, the rage in his eyes replaced by helplessness.

He watched me and Ethan embracing, saw the undisguised coldness in my eyes, and finally realized that the little stand-in who had once been devoted to him was gone.

He abruptly shook off Ethan’s hand, gave me one last lingering look, and turned to leave without looking

back.

The door closed again.

I immediately pulled away from Ethan and let out a long sigh.

“Mr. Collins, how did I do? Nailed it, right?”

Ethan looked at the empty space in his arms, his fingertips twitching slightly.

He walked back to his desk, took a black card from a drawer, and slid it toward me.

“Not bad. An advance on your bonus. Go pick out something nice for the family dinner this weekend.”

My eyes lit up like searchlights.

I tucked the card into my pocket.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Collins. I’ll outshine everyone, leave Lynn with no way out, and make Zachary regret his decision. I’ll make you look good.”

Ethan shook his head in exasperation, but a hint of indulgence flickered in his eyes – one he didn’t even

notice himself.

“Go on,” he said.
