His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 09

His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 09

If you can’t fight it, enjoy it.

As a professional substitute, as long as the boss didn’t call it quits, I could play any role.

The next morning, Ethan went to the office.

I slept in, wandered around the massive apartment, and was considering ordering an insanely expensive

afternoon tea when the assistant showed up.

“Miss Parker, Mr. Collins asked me to bring you to the office.”

I blinked. “Why? Didn’t he say I should lay low?”

The assistant pushed up his glasses.

“Miss Moore came to see Mr. Collins. He thought your presence would be appropriate.”

Ah. A human shield.

Lynn was busy enough – yesterday with the younger brother, today with the older.

Her ambitions were bigger than I thought.

I quickly changed into a carefully chosen little white dress and put on an innocent-yet-alluring face, then

followed the assistant to Collins Group headquarters.

The executive office door was ajar.

As I approached, I heard Lynn’s gentle voice.

“Ethan, don’t take what Zachary said at the restaurant to heart. I know you’d never keep that kind of trashy

woman around.”

I pushed the door open. “Mr. Collins~”

I used a syrupy sweet voice, then ignored the frozen Lynn on the couch and fluttered straight to Ethan behind

his desk.

Ethan’s hand paused mid-signature.

He looked up, his eyes deep behind his lenses.

I expected him to push me away – but instead, he set down his pen and pulled me into his lap.

“Why didn’t you sleep in?” His voice was unexpectedly warm.

“Didn’t you say you were too tired last night?”

The air froze.

The assistant quickly retreated and shut the door.

Lynn’s face cycled through shades of white, green, and red.

Her manicured fingers dug into the couch.

“Ethan…” Her voice trembled. “Are you really together?”

I leaned against Ethan’s broad chest, turned, and looked at Lynn with wide, frightened eyes.

“Oh, Miss Moore, I didn’t know you were here. Did I do something wrong? I’m so sorry.”

If you can’t beat the mean girl, out-mean the mean girl.

Sure enough, Lynn was furious.

She shot to her feet, her elegant mask cracking.

“Chloe! You’re just a cheap copy who used your resemblance to me to get into Zachary’s bed! Now that he’s

done with you, you’re coming after Ethan? Have you no shame?”

I’d been waiting for this.

My eyes reddened instantly. I looked up at Ethan, pitiful and hurt.

“Mr. Collins, Miss Moore called me a cheap copy. Were you lying last night when you said I was softer and

better behaved than her?”
