His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 08

His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 08

The black Maybach slid quietly into the underground garage of Seattle’s most expensive riverside penthouse.

I clutched my small safe, lost in dreams of retirement.

The assistant took me up the private elevator.

The doors opened to reveal a minimalist black-and-gray apartment – as cold as Ethan himself.

At the floor-to-ceiling window, Ethan stood with his back to me, wearing dark grey silk loungewear, a half-full

glass of whiskey in his hand. He turned when he heard me.

His gold-rimmed glasses were off, resting on the coffee table.

Without them, his narrow eyes were even sharper.

“Mr. Collins.” I immediately flashed my best corporate smile and bowed.

“Thank you for saving me. If you hadn’t sent your men, I might have died on the job tonight.”

Ethan didn’t respond.

His gaze moved slowly over my face, finally stopping at my lips – still swollen from Zachary’s bite.

Something flickered behind his eyes. He set down his glass, walked toward me, and stopped in front of me.

His clean, woody scent mixed with whiskey enveloped me.

He leaned down slightly, his cool fingers gripping my chin.

“He touched you?” His voice was low, unreadable.

I swallowed.

“That’s… work-related, I guess.”

I tried to negotiate.

“Mr. Collins, does this count as overtime? Medical expenses? Pain and suffering?”

“Chloe.” Ethan laughed softly, but the amusement didn’t reach his eyes.

“Is there anything in that head of yours besides money?”

I blinked.

“Also gratitude for your mentorship, Mr. Collins.”

He let go.

He walked to the couch and sat down, crossing his legs.

Relaxed, but absolute.

“Your severance is on hold,” he said flatly.

My face went white.

“Mr. Collins! Why? I’ve done everything perfectly. Zachary is obsessed with his first love…”

“Obsessed with his first love, but he still came back to your penthouse in the middle of the night?”

Ethan’s gaze was sharp. “If I hadn’t sent my people, how would you have gotten away?”

I had no answer.

“Lynn is back, but Zachary’s fixation on you is stronger than I thought.”

Ethan continued methodically.

“And Lynn is smart. She’s temporarily convinced, but once she finds out you’ve moved, she’ll know we’re just

acting.”

My heart sank. “So what do you want me to do?”

“Stay here.” He pointed to a room next to the master bedroom. “Since they think you’re my little pet, let’s make it real. Until Lynn and Zachary are married, you’re not going anywhere.”

I was crushed.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire.
