Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 04 Don’t Tell Him

Silence on the line.

Then Liam laughed. Cold and mean.

“Samuel, you’re really this bored? You two cooking up a drama for me?”

Samuel wanted to reach through the phone and strangle him. “Do you have any idea-Fiona is-—”

A weak hand grabbed his arm.

He looked down. Fiona’s eyes were open. Barely.

She moved her lips. No sound. But he read them.

“Don’t. Tell. Him.”

Samuel glanced at the monitor. Her vitals were stabilizing. Coming back up.

Liam’s voice came through. “Say that again. What happened to her?!”

But Samuel didn’t have time. Her heart rate was climbing. He hung up, ecstatic, and ran to get the attending physician.

After a full exam, the doctor breathed out. “She’s stable for now.”

On the other side of town.

Liam stared at the dead call. Long time.

Serena saw him spacing out over Fiona again. Jealousy burned her up inside.

“Tch. Fiona’s playing her little games again. Like that’ll make you forgive her for killing Selene.”

She tried to sit next to him. He stood up and walked to the window.

Back turned. Voice cold. “I have work. Go home.”

Serena had planned to stay the night. She left fuming.

In his study, Liam stared at papers. Couldn’t read a word.

After a while, he threw them down and called his secretary.

“Find out what happened to Fiona.”

His voice shook.

Ten minutes later, the secretary called back.

“Mr. Lane, Miss Foster fell from the third floor. She just got out of the ICU, but she’s out of danger now.”

Liam’s hand tightened on the phone. Long silence.

The secretary dared to ask, “Sir… do you want to visit her?”

“No.” Too fast. “And don’t tell her I asked.”

He hung up. Stood there. Didn’t move all night.

Next day. Hospital.

Fiona was doing a little better.

Samuel had stayed by her side all night. Looking at her pale face, his eyes red, he begged.

“Fiona, you can’t put this off anymore. Or you’ll really-”

She’ll die. Even thinking it made him want to suffocate.

But Fiona just smiled weakly. Her voice was terrifyingly calm.

“Then… let me.”

Samuel froze.

His chest ached. Voice shaky. “You have to punish yourself this hard?”

She shook her head.

“Death is a relief for me, Samuel. Please. Next time… let me go.”

She should have died a year ago anyway.

Next day was Selene’s memorial. Fiona checked herself out of the hospital against Samuel’s protests.

She bought Selene’s favorites-vanilla pudding and donuts. Placed them at the grave.

Black-and-white photo. That bright smile.

“Selene… you probably don’t want to see me, huh?”

“I’m sorry.”

“If I could go back… I’d make sure you ran first.”

She sat on the ground, hugging the headstone. Voice breaking.

“You know? I’m dying soon.”

“But don’t worry. You won’t have to see me. Someone like me-I’ll be in hell. You’ll be in heaven. Smiling like always.”

“Stay happy up there. I’ll keep paying for what I did… down there.”

“Selene… please don’t hate me, okay?”

Tears ran down her cheeks.

She touched the photo’s smile. Heart aching.

“Selene… next life? Best friends again? Deal?”
