Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 05

Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 05 Why Did She Have To Die?

Fiona stayed at the cemetery a long time. When she finally stood up, her legs shook.

As she turned to leave, she ran right into Liam and his parents.

Liam saw her. His eyes dropped to the offerings at Selene’s grave. His face went dark.

His mother, Evelyn, instantly teared up.

She lunged forward and slapped Fiona hard across the face. Her voice was a shriek.

“You murderer! How dare you show your face here! Get out! Don’t you defile my daughter’s resting place!”

Fiona staggered back. Her cheek swelled up fast.

“I just wanted to see Lun-”

“You don’t get to say her name!”

Evelyn cursed like a woman possessed. “You killed my daughter! Go die yourself! Why do you have to keep haunting us?!”

She saw the offerings on the ground. Grabbed them. Threw them at Fiona. Sobbing uncontrollably.

“You come here now pretending to care? Where were you when it mattered? If you’d helped her then, she wouldn’t have ended up-like that—”

She broke down, remembering her daughter’s brutalized body.

Liam’s father, Edward, rushed to catch Evelyn before she collapsed.

“Fiona… you shouldn’t be here.”

The whole family hated her guts.

Everyone knew the real story. The attack on Fiona and Selene happened because Liam had crossed a terrorist group during his Spec Ops days. They couldn’t get to him, so they went after the women in his life.

And the truth was, even if Fiona had stayed, both of them would have died.

But rational didn’t matter. Their only daughter, their only sister, had died in the worst way imaginable. All they could see was that Fiona lived. And Selene didn’t.

They wished with everything they had that it had been the other way around.

Evelyn broke free from her husband and shoved Fiona with all her strength.

“Why did my daughter have to die?! Why not you?!”

Fiona hit the ground hard. Her still-healing surgical wound tore open. Blood soaked through her shirt.

Liam watched. Something flickered in his eyes for just a second. Then it was gone. Just hate.

He stepped forward and grabbed her arm.

“Mom, don’t waste your energy on her. She’s not worth it. I’ll get rid of her.”

He dragged her out of the cemetery and threw her outside the gates.

Liam stood over her, voice low and vicious.

“You trying to make my mom cry on purpose? Fiona, you stay away from here. Forever.”

“I wasn’t-”

He’d already turned his back. Didn’t look at her. Just walked away.

Fiona watched him go through a blur of tears. Despair crushed her chest.

Her mind spun in circles.

Selene… if only I’d let you run first. If only I had died that night.

Then maybe nobody would be in pain.

A worthless orphan’s death wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

And if she’d died back then, Liam might have loved her forever.

They wouldn’t have ended up like this.

Regret. Agony. Self-hatred. They cut through her brain like a dull knife.

She couldn’t take it anymore. She started hitting her own head with her fists. Over and over.

“AHH!”

She curled up on the ground and screamed until she had nothing left.
