Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 03

Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 03 Just Let Me Die
Fiona stood alone in the thorn bushes. Something inside her just… broke. She bent over and searched all night. Finally found the earring at dawn. She stood up, her whole body trembling. Her clothes were shredded, soaked with blood. Cuts everywhere. She didn’t have time to care about the pain. She grabbed the earring and ran back to the Lane mansion. Serena was in Liam’s study. When she saw the earring in Fiona’s hand, her face twisted. “Ew, it’s filthy. I don’t want it anymore.” She shoved Fiona hard to the side. Liam didn’t even look up. “If it’s dirty, throw it away. I’ll buy you a new one.” Serena beamed. “Liam, you’re so good to me.” Fiona walked out covered in wounds. The mansion staff barely blinked anymore. They’d seen it a thousand times. None of them understood why she stayed. She didn’t take a single day off. Just slapped on some bandages and went right back to running errands for Liam. Evening came. Serena showed up with homemade bento boxes. “Fiona, I made way too much. You should eat with us.” She looked so friendly. Until she opened the boxes. Shrimp. Crab roe. Everything Fiona was deathly allergic to. Back in the day, Liam would’ve never let that stuff on the table. But now? He’d forgotten. Fiona looked up at him, a tiny flicker of hope in her eyes. He didn’t look back. Just smiled gently at Serena. Serena asked, “Fiona, why aren’t you eating?” Liam finally turned. He gave her a mean little smile. “You’re already sitting here, so eat.” Fiona picked up her fork. Took a tiny bite of crab roe. Her mouth started stinging instantly. She clamped her lips shut and swallowed fast. Dinner ended. Liam left with Serena. Fiona staggered home. Allergy hit. Cramps. Cold sweat. And then the drug kicked in too. Pain everywhere. Couldn’t breathe. She pounded her fists against her body, trying to make the pain stop. Nothing worked. She never found out what those masked men had injected her with. But once a month, she went through this. No painkiller helped. She curled into a ball, shaking and moaning in pain. Hours later, the pain faded. She lay there, staring at nothing. All the suffering over the years—it was atonement for Selene. The more her body hurt, the less her guilt weighed. Lately, the attacks were coming more often. Two, three times a month. She could feel it. She was really dying. Good. She smiled, relieved, as she slipped into unconsciousness. — A few more days passed. She refused to go to the hospital. Kept drinking. Her organs were failing faster and faster. Every time, she just popped a handful of painkillers and moved on. Weekend. Fiona lay on the couch. Painkillers scattered all over the floor. She was in so much agony she didn’t even dare move. Then her phone rang. Liam. “Serena wants to take Selene’s favorite vanilla pudding to the grave. Go buy some and bring it over.” Anytime before, she’d have jumped. But today, she couldn’t even get up. “Can someone else go? I—” He cut her off. Ice cold. “Fiona. Weren’t you the one talking about atonement?” Her chest tightened. Words died in her throat. “Either go, or don’t ever show your face again.” Click. She forced herself up. Stood there swaying. Then stumbled out the door. The sun was brutal—like it wanted to melt you alive. Everything went white. Her whole body screamed. Her head spun. Each step felt like walking on clouds. The old apartment’s outdoor stairs were scorching. The steps blurred together. She blinked hard. Didn’t help. Missed a step. Fell. Rusted metal edges ripped through her thin clothes and dug into her flesh. Thud. Thud. Thud. Slamming down each step. Then hit the hot concrete hard. She stared up at the blinding sun. Everything fading. Finally… she could die. Finally tell Selene she was sorry. She’d never run away again. Tears rolled down her face. Then darkness. — At the hospital. Samuel’s eyes went wide when he saw who was on the gurney. “Fiona! Fiona!” No response. Then blood started gushing out of her. Couldn’t stop it. “Delayed arterial hemorrhage!” The doctors’ faces changed. They rushed her into surgery. Hours later, the bleeding stopped. But the monitors showed her vitals crashing hard. Samuel panicked. “Doctor, what’s happening?!” His mentor shook his head. “The drug, plus blood loss from the fall… organ failure. Early.” Fiona lay there, white as paper, eyes shut. Cold sweat on her forehead. Mumbling without knowing it. “Liam… Liam…” Samuel’s eyes were bloodshot. He grabbed her hand, voice cracking. “Fiona, hold on. Please. I’ll bring him here. Wait for me.” He pulled out her phone with shaking hands. Called Liam. Liam’s voice was cold as ice. “Fiona, did you fly to the moon to get that pudding?” Samuel clenched his jaw. “It’s me. Samuel.” Silence. Then Liam’s voice, low. “Why do you have her phone?” Samuel looked at the monitor. Numbers dropping fast. “Get to the hospital. Now. If you want to see her one last time.”
