Her New Beginning, My Final Ending Chapter 01

Her New Beginning, My Final Ending Chapter 01

The day my sister was given a second chance at life was the day I died.

My parents suddenly gained the ability to see floating comments in the air.

Those comments foretold that my older sister, Claire Whitmore, would fall into depression because our family favored

They also said that on the day I was supposed to marry my boyfriend, Adrian Cole, she would be overwhelmed by
grief, suffer heart palpitations, and die.

The only way to break the prophecy was to completely reverse the way Claire and I were treated.

So, to save her, my whole family began putting her above me in everything. They even told everyone Adrian was the one

marrying Claire.

On the day of the wedding, my parents shoved me into the basement so I would not cause trouble.

My head struck the stairs hard. Blood poured out as I weakly beat against the door, my voice trembling.

‘Mom, Dad, I’m bleeding. Please let me out…”

‘Natalie, can you be a little more understanding? Claire is only one step away from escaping that death prophecy for

good.

‘At a time like this, all you can think about is yourself? Could you really stand by and watch Claire die?”

The footsteps outside the door gradually faded, and the strength drained from my hand little by little until my arm fell

imply to my side.

When I opened my eyes again, my whole body felt weightless, yet my physical body was still lying at the foot of the

stairs, blood soaking into the basement floor.

was dead

drifted out of the basement and into the living room. The whole house was filled with wedding cheer, decorated

everywhere for the celebration.

My father was bent over, adjusting the hem of Claire’s dress, while my mother carefully straightened her veil.

‘Mom, I really think you should let Natalie out. I still don’t believe those comments.”

“Natalie’s younger than me. It’s normal for you to dote on her more. How could I possibly become depressed over that ”

Claire started to rise, clearly intending to go to the basement, but my parents stopped her and gently pressed her back

into her seat.

“At a time like this, you’re still worried about her? Do you have any idea what today means for you…”

My mother’s eyes were already red before she even finished the sentence.

“Nothing matters more than you today. Everything else can wait until after you get through this.”

“But ever since that prophecy appeared, you’ve already hurt Natalie so much by putting me first. And now you’re even

making Adrian marry me in her place. I…”

My mother cut her off before she could finish.

“She knew perfectly well that the prophecy said something would happen to you, and she still envied you and took her

anger out on you.”

“Have you forgotten how she fought with you over the color of a cake and made you fall down the stairs and break your

leg?”

Claire fell silent, but her eyes still drifted anxiously toward the basement.

I let out a bitter laugh.

From the moment my parents learned how to break Claire’s death prophecy. I had become invisible to them.

And yes, I had been jealous of Claire.

On the day I turned eighteen, my parents would rather have given her another birthday than celebrate mine. In the

middle of that crying, fighting mess, I accidentally shoved her, and she tumbled down the stairs and broke her leg.

But I still wanted her to live.

Because that same day, when my parents beat me half to death, she was the one who threw herself over me, sobbing

and begging them to stop. She was the one who held my face in both hands and kept saying she was sorry, over and over

again.

I understood why my parents favored her after the prophecy appeared. But without ever saying it outright, they had

started treating me like an outsider they needed to guard against at all times.

Just then, the sound of Adrian stepping inside snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Adrian, you’re here? Good, it’s time. Take Claire out to the car.”

After saying that, my mother’s eyes reddened again.

“I’m sorry. Adrian. I know you and Natalie love each other very much, but we really had no other choice

“Claire has always been so good, so considerate. She’s been helping us carry this family since she was little. We can’t lose

her.”

By the end, my mother’s voice had gone thick with tears.

Adrian nodded and said softly. “Mom, I understand. And I believe Natalie… will understand why you’re doing this

Then he walked toward the basement and knocked softly on the door.

“Natalie, I know you’re angry, but we’re doing this because we can’t just stand by and let Claire die.”

“Once today is over, everything will go back to normal. Trust me. You’re the only person I love, okay?”

But there was no response from inside.

My mother instantly lost her temper and pounded hard on the door.

“Natalie Whitmore, who exactly are you showing this attitude to? Is this how we raised you?”

As she spoke, she reached for the basement door.

It opened just a crack, and my heart lurched.

Was my mother finally about to discover that I was dead?

But in the next second, Adrian stopped her and let out a quiet sigh.

“Mom, forget it. Natalie’s probably still upset. No matter what we say right now, she won’t listen.”

The ceremony is about to start. We can’t waste any more time. Let’s go first.”

Then he looked back at the basement.

“Natalie, hang in there a little longer. We’ll come back tomorrow, and we’ll make it up to you. I promise.”

With that, he helped Claire toward the door and led her outside to the wedding car.

Even as a spirit, I could still feel that dull ache in my chest. My face felt wet too. When I lifted a hand to touch it. I

realized I was already crying.

Mom. Dad. Those floating comments had predicted Claire’s death.

What about mine?
