He Wasn’t Supposed To Have Kids, Then I Got Pregnant Chapter 09

[Livia’s baby has survived way too many disasters already.)

(Maybe the story has strayed too far from the original plot, so fate itself is stepping in to force the characters back into place.]

No.

I wasn’t going to surrender to some predetermined fate.

I opened my eyes but remained silent.

Audrey stood outside the room, speaking to a nurse in a low voice.

“Give her the injection, and she’ll go into labor tonight.”

The nurse’s voice trembled.

“She could die.”

Audrey let out a soft laugh.

“I’ll make sure nothing happens to you.”My fingers found the call button beside the bed. Just as I was about to press it, the door opened.

The nurse entered with a tray in her hands. When she saw that I was awake, all the color drained from her face.

“M-Miss Serrano, you need an injection…”I stared at the syringe.

“Get the doctor.”

She forced a smile.

“The doctor is busy,”

I grabbed the lamp from the nightstand and hurled it at her.

It shattered against the floor, and the nurse screamed as she stumbled backward. The guards outside rushed into the room.

I pointed at the tray.

“Test that syringe.”

A doctor arrived within minutes, and the syringe was sent for an urgent analysis.Twenty minutes

later, the results came back.

It contained a drug that would induce labor. My mother stood in the doorway, looking as though all

the strength had been drained from her body.

I looked straight at her.

“Is this what you call keeping me safe?”She covered her mouth, unable to make a sound. The police quickly took the nurse into custody. Audrey was detained as well, but she remained perfectly calm

when the officers brought her over.

“You really are difficult to kill, Miss Serrano.”

I threw back the covers and got out of bed before the nurses could stop me.

I walked up to Audrey and struck her across the face.

“That was for my child.”

Then I hit her again with the back of my hand.

“And that was for Lucian.”

The corner of Audrey’s mouth split, and her eyes turned cold with hatred.

“You honestly believe Lucian loves you?”

“He only wants you because he’s desperate for a child.”

My chest tightened.

A cold voice came from the doorway.

“I love her.”

Lucian stood in the doorway, his face dark with fury. He had clearly rushed over the moment he heard what had happened and hadn’t even stopped to put on a coat.

I hurried toward him.

“Why are you here?”

He took my hand and looked at Audrey.

“If I had to choose between the child and Livia, I’d choose Livia. Every time.”The color vanished from Audrey’s face.

Lucian continued, “The Orsini family will make you answer for every single thing you’ve done.”Audrey suddenly laughed.

“Do you really think you can protect her forever, Lucian?”

“In the original plot, she died in childbirth!”

The original plot?

How did she know about that?

The moment the words left her mouth, comments flooded my vision so densely that I could barely

see through them.

[Fate correction initiated.]

[Fate correction initiated.]

A sudden, crushing pressure seized my lower abdomen, and pain swept over me without warning.I grabbed Lucian’s hand, my fingers trembling.

“Lucian, it hurts.”

All the color left his face.

“Doctor!”

The contractions came harder and faster.

I gripped the sheets while doctors and nurses shouted instructions around me. I clenched my teeth so tightly that the metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.

I refused to die.

Lucian still owed me a proper proposal. I hadn’t spent nearly enough of his money. I still hadn’t

seen Audrey break down and regret everything she had done.

Most importantly, I hadn’t heard my child call me Mom.

“The fetal heart rate is dropping!” the doctor suddenly shouted.

The room erupted into urgent movement. The pain became so overwhelming that I nearly passed

out.

A nurse patted my cheek.

“Miss Serrano, stay awake!”

I forced my eyes open.

From outside the delivery room, Lucian’s voice reached me, raw and hoarse.”Livia, if you fall

asleep, I’ll burn every handbag you own.”

The threat made me so furious that I found a second wind.”Lucian!”

“Good,” the doctor shouted. “Push!”

When my baby’s cry finally filled the room, every ounce of strength left my body.

A nurse carried the tiny, wrinkled bundle over to me.

“It’s a girl.”

I could barely keep my eyes open.

“Let me hold her.”

After one brief look at her face, I had no strength left and lost consciousness.
