Audrey stood there in a white dress, her long black hair falling around her shoulders and her eyes soft with concern.Standing beside someone as cold and imposing as Lucian, she looked almost angelic.

Her eyes flicked to the pregnancy report in my hand, and she went still for a beat.”Are you feeling unwell, Miss Serrano?”

I quickly hid the report behind my back.

“That’s none of your business.”

Audrey tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and gave me a soft smile.

“I was only worried about you.”

Lucian looked at her.

“Who allowed you up here?”

Audrey bit her lower lip.

“Marlowe asked me to bring you your medication. The doctor said your stomach has been acting up again.”

Lucian’s expression grew even colder.

“Leave it and go.”

“Lucian, Marlowe also asked you to come to Riverside Manor tonight,” Audrey added quickly.

More comments appeared.

[Here we go. Marlowe wants Audrey to become Lucian’s wife, so she keeps creating opportunities for them to spend time together.]

I had to fight for my own future.

I stepped closer to Lucian.”You can’t go tonight.”

He lowered his gaze to me.

“You think you get a say in my business now?”I lifted my chin.

“I’m carrying your child. At least for now, that makes us family.”

Audrey’s eyes cooled.Lucian looked at me as though I were a contract riddled with loopholes.”Livia, you’d better understand what will happen if you’re lying to me.”

I was afraid of him, but I was much more afraid of dying.

I straightened my back and forced myself to look confident.

“Then have me tested right now.”Ten minutes later, a doctor entered the private lounge with a nurse and portable medical equipment.They drew my blood, collected a urine sample, and performed an ultrasound.

After the ultrasound, I lay back on the examination bed with my dress draped over my legs, my palms slick with sweat. Lucian stood rigidly by the window.

Audrey hadn’t left. She remained just outside the doorway.

When the examination was over, the doctor studied the results for a moment before speaking.”Don Orsini, Miss Serrano is indeed pregnant.”Lucian froze.

The doctor continued, “Based on the gestational age, the timing is also consistent.”

I immediately pushed myself upright.

“Did you hear that?”

Lucian kept his eyes on the doctor.

“Can you confirm paternity?”The doctor visibly tensed beneath his stare.

“We don’t recommend invasive paternity testing this early in the pregnancy. A noninvasive prenatal paternity test can be arranged once the pregnancy is far enough along.”

The smile disappeared from my face.

“Lucian, you still don’t believe me?”

He said nothing.

Audrey walked into the room, her voice soft and soothing.”Please don’t be upset, Miss Serrano. Given Lucian’s condition, it’s understandable that he would want to be cautious.”

I grabbed a pillow and hurled it at her.

“Who do you think you are?”Audrey staggered back half a step, her eyes instantly filling with tears.

Lucian frowned.

A bitter ache spread through me. I threw back the covers and climbed out of bed.

“Fine. I’m leaving.”

The moment my feet touched the floor, a sharp cramp twisted through my lower abdomen. I doubled over in pain.

Lucian crossed the room in one stride and lifted me into his arms.

“Doctor!”

I clutched his lapel as tears spilled down my cheeks despite my best efforts to stop them.”Don’t touch me.”

Lucian’s entire body went still.

A second later, the sharp tap of a cane sounded from the hallway.Marlowe had arrived.

The moment she entered the room, her eyes went straight to my stomach.”Who is carrying an Orsini child?”
