He Was Ready To Die Until I Told Him I Was Pregnant Chapter 08

Arthur froze for a moment.

A beat later, he shoved her off, harder this time.

“Get off me!”

“Arthur, please…” Eleanor’s face fell.

“I… I just realized… it’s always been you. You’re the one I’ve been thinking about this whole time.”

“I was so stupid back then. Julian said all the right things, and I fell for it… I married the wrong person.”

“But even after the wedding, it was still you I thought about…”

Arthur’s frown deepened with every word.

Then he caught movement over Eleanor’s shoulder: the nanny carrying Lily out of the nursery.

His expression snapped into high alert.

Eleanor was still talking, oblivious.

“Arthur, I love you so much! Please, just give me one more chance…”

Arthur grabbed an apple off the table and shoved it against her chest. “Stuff it!”

“My daughter is over a year old. She understands things now. She remembers.”

“You’re going to confuse her. You’re going to make her think something’s wrong with her family.”

“She’s little. She needs stability. I am not letting you mess with her head.”

Eleanor stared at him, completely stunned.

She watched him, watched how his eyes kept drifting to Lily, like nothing else in the room existed.

“…Am I really nothing to you now?”

She let the apple drop from her hands, eyes brimming, tears already spilling.

“You used to love me more than anything. You promised you’d always be there for me…”

“I never said that! Don’t put words in my mouth!”

Arthur cut her off, panicking.

When that wasn’t enough, he bolted across the room, scooped Lily out of the nanny’s arms, and cradled her

against his chest.

Then, he covered her ears.

“Lily, don’t listen to any of that. It’s all lies.”

I almost burst out laughing.

[I CAN’T hahahahaha…]

[Savage Imaooo he’s not wrong!]

[THIS is Eleanor?? She’s claiming he abuses her… okay Julian sucks too but she’s blowing it way out of proportion.]

[She just doesn’t want to be poor. That’s literally all this is.]

[She doesn’t love him. She loves his money. She got used to the good life and now she’s looking for her next meal ticket. He’s always been her backup plan.]

The disgust on Arthur’s face was unmistakable. Eleanor still didn’t stop.

“Arthur, is this really it? You’re done with me?”

She looked like she was one word away from shattering.

“I don’t care that you have a daughter. I can be a mother to her. I’ll even give you a son if that’s what you

want…”

“As long as you…”

“Yeah, well, my daughter doesn’t need you!”

Arthur was done. Every word out of her mouth made it worse.

He turned to the nanny.

“Show her out!”

“Arthur!” Eleanor’s voice cracked.

Nobody stopped to listen. The staff closed in, and Eleanor was escorted out.

Once she was gone, Arthur pulled Lily close and held her for a long time.

“Lily, don’t listen to the crazy lady, okay?”

“She’s confused. None of that was real…”

“Daddy loves you more than anything. Our family is perfect just the way it is, okay? Nothing’s going to change. Don’t be sad.”

Lily blinked up at him, completely clueless, her big eyes round as saucers.

Arthur melted on the spot.

It hit me then, quietly, like something I should’ve noticed sooner. Arthur hadn’t thought about dying in a very,

very long time.
