He Was Ready To Die Until I Told Him I Was Pregnant Chapter 01

He Was Ready To Die Until I Told Him I Was Pregnant Chapter 01

I was a nobody, just a background character in this book. But I still ended up sleeping with the second male lead anyway.

The next morning, he handed me a check. Five million dollars.

That’s when the comments appeared.

[My heart breaks for the second male lead. He finds out the female lead got married, completely loses it, gives away everything, and burns himself alive in his own house.]

[This extra was supposed to get pregnant and leave him an heir. But nope, she just wanted to hook up and bounce with the cash.]

I froze. My hand, already reaching for the check, snapped back.

“Five million dollars might not be enough to raise a kid, you know.”

Arthur Sterling stared at me. “How does raising a kid cost that much?!”

Later, Arthur dropped a fortune on a jewelry set at an auction. A reporter asked if it was a birthday gift for Eleanor.

Arthur rolled his eyes. “It’s for my daughter. Do you have any idea how expensive kids are?”

When I didn’t take the check, Arthur’s gaze dropped to my stomach.

“It was one night… You’re probably not even pregnant.”

“Or… I could get you Plan B or something…”

“I’m highly allergic. It’d put me in the hospital.”

I shook my head.

“But what if I am pregnant?”

“You’re not just going to dump five million dollars on me and walk away, right? Leave me and the baby to figure it out alone?”

“If you’re pregnant… you could always, you know… not keep it…”

Arthur trailed off, not quite meeting my eyes.

“How could you even say that?”

I put on my most horrified face. “That baby hasn’t even had the chance to see the world, and you just want to… get rid of it?”

“Besides, my body can’t handle a termination. One procedure, and I might never be able to have kids again.”

Arthur’s face twisted like I’d backed him into a corner. Which I had.

I didn’t push it. I just sighed, turned away, and slid out of bed.

“Forget it.”

“If I end up pregnant, I’ll just… go through with it, I guess. Then give the baby up for adoption.”

“But growing up in the foster system… the poor kid would have it so rough.”

“And who knows what kind of family they’d end up with. Especially if it’s a little girl… she’d be so vulnerable.”

“But I guess I don’t have a choice…”

“Wait!”

Arthur caught my arm. He couldn’t listen to another word.

“You… just find out if you’re pregnant first.”

“If you are, we’ll figure something out.”

“Just take the money for now.”

He pressed the check into my hand before I could say another word.

Good enough.

At least I’d bought him some time. He wasn’t going to off himself tonight.

I pocketed the check without hesitation this time, swapped numbers with him, and walked out.

The comments popped up again the second I stepped outside.

[Wait, why is the plot changing? Is that extra messing with the storyline?]

[Well, at least he’s still alive for now…]

[Honestly, Arthur has had the worst life. Nobody was ever kind to him growing up. Eleanor was the only one who showed him any warmth.]

[That’s why he put her on a pedestal… He built his whole empire from nothing just for her.]

[But she just used him. Kept him close when it suited her, tossed him aside when it didn’t. He deserves so much better… I just want him to stop hurting himself.]

I looked away, a thought settling in.

A face like that, gone from the world? What a waste.

So yeah. I’d keep him alive.

Over the next two weeks, I spent Arthur’s five million dollars like water, upgrading every corner of my life.

The comments kept drifting in. His mental state was spiraling.

Every time that happened, I’d text him something like, [I’ve been feeling weird lately… I think I might be pregnant.]

His reply always came instantly. [Did you take a test?]

[Not yet.] That was all it took.

He’d go quiet after that. And the next time the comments warned me he was spiraling again, I’d send another text.

We kept up this little routine.

After two weeks of this, I finally went to a clinic for an actual pregnancy test.

The second the results came back, the comments exploded.

[It’s over!! Julian and Eleanor are getting married TODAY, and they actually sent Arthur an invitation!]

[He watched them together and completely broke down. He’s heading home right now. He’s going to hurt himself!]

[No no no… Someone stop him. Please don’t let him do this!]
