He Treated Me as a Servant but Begged Me Not to Leave Chapter 05

When did I start wanting to break up with Landon?

About six months into the relationship.

I used to handle cleaning the common areas.

But ever since we got together, I also had to clean his room.

I’d gone from regular maid to the maid who warmed his bed.

I worked all day, and I “worked” all night too.

After the honeymoon phase faded, my hormones settled down.

He was my boss, not my prince.

That was the first time I seriously thought about leaving.

Then one time, Landon’s phone rang while he was in the shower, and he asked me to check it.

So I saw his pinned message thread:

[Coey.]

I didn’t yell. I didn’t make a scene.

I even sweetly plugged his phone in to charge for him.

Landon came out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel, his hair dripping.

Hot and innocent all at once.

If only his expression hadn’t been so panicked.

He looked at me. His eyes darted away nervously. “Did you look at my phone?”

I smiled and said the ringing stopped before I could check.

He seemed relieved. He didn’t know.

Right at that moment, the thought of breaking up hit me like a runaway train—there was no stopping it.

It was like a seed cracking through the soil.

Like wildfire spreading.

But Vivian had paid my tuition—over a hundred thousand dollars.

On top of that, she’d given me a huge living allowance, even bigger than Landon’s.

When she found out we were together, she was obviously thrilled and gave me a big gift—a large sum of cash.

I’d saved every penny and never spent it.

“Let’s end here”—those words just wouldn’t come out.

I dragged it all the way until we returned home.

Landon and I had been together for a full year.

After coming back, I sent out my resume.

I applied to the top firm in the field.

I was confident.

But Vivian found out and reached out to an old classmate—a shareholder there.

I only learned about it after I started, when coworkers whispered that I’d only gotten the job through connections.

I had really mixed feelings about it.

But ultimately, I was grateful.

Last time at the Hale house, Vivian held my hand and said she was waiting for the day I’d start calling her Mom.

“Breakup” got stuck in my throat.

I couldn’t spit it out. Couldn’t swallow it either.

Until Chloe’s resume appeared in front of me.

Right now, Landon stared at what I was holding, stunned for a few seconds.

Chloe flinched like a scared rabbit and huddled half her body behind Landon’s tall frame.

“Blair, what is your problem!”

“I already explained everything to you, didn’t I?”

Even as he said that, his hand was still on Chloe’s ankle.

Chloe grabbed his shoulder and said, “Yeah, Blair, don’t be so dirty-minded. I twisted my ankle—he’s just taking care of me.”

My eyes swept over the lipstick stain on Landon’s collar.

I shrugged, then tossed the condom box onto the bed where Chloe was sitting.

Chloe screamed like I was about to hurl acid at her, nearly falling off the bed.

As I turned to leave, I heard movement behind me.

Landon ran after me.

“You scared Coey. You have to apologize to her!”

He was so flustered he’d forgotten to hide that nickname in front of me.

He reached for my wrist. I slapped his hand away.

The sound was sharp.

A red mark immediately bloomed on the back of Landon’s hand.

I looked at him and said, “Don’t touch me. You’re dirty.”

Landon’s hand froze in midair.

The silence hung for a moment.

Perfect timing.

I went ahead and said, “Since we’re already at this point, why don’t we just break up?”
