He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 09

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 09

Lola edged toward him again. Seeing Adrian so completely out of control, she cautiously reached out, trying

to touch his bleeding hand.

“Adrian, your hand is still bleeding. Let me treat it first… Don’t hurt yourself over someone else.”

“Get away from me.”

The words fell from Adrian’s lips in a cold, flat tone, and the disgust in his eyes was impossible to miss.

Lola’s face turned deathly pale. Her fingers froze in midair, then curled into the fabric at her side as her whole

body shook. She didn’t dare move again.

Adrian stared at the blood still seeping from the back of his hand, but he felt no pain at all. The only things

raging inside him were the fury of being deceived and the panic of not being able to find Summer.

He pulled out his phone and called the Carter patriarch.

The moment the call connected, all the anger he had been holding back erupted.

“Grandpa, why did you lie to me? Summer never came back to the hospital. You promised me yourself that

you’d send her back. Where did you hide her?”

There was a brief silence on the other end before the patriarch’s steady voice came through.

“Adrian, you’re too obsessive. You drove Summer into a corner. She was wound so tight she was falling

apart, and her body had broken down too. I only wanted to give her a way out. I couldn’t stand by and watch

the two of you keep tormenting each other.”

“A way out?” Adrian let out a low laugh, one filled with pure madness. “As far as I’m concerned, there’s only one way she gets to keep living, and that’s by staying at my side forever. Grandpa, tell me where she is. If you do, I’ll pretend none of this ever happened.”

“I won’t tell you.” The patriarch’s tone was firm. “Adrian, stop now. If you really care about her, let her go. Stop

keeping her trapped in a cage. That isn’t love. It’s torment. It’s destruction.””

“I will never let go!”

Adrian roared the words and slammed the call dead, gripping the phone so tightly it nearly bent in his hand.

He knew his grandfather too well.

Once the old man made up his mind, he never changed it. There was no chance Adrian would get anything

out of him.

Forcing himself to calm down, Adrian knew there was only one option left. He would have to find her

himself

He immediately called his assistant. “Use every connection the company has. Track down every lead on Summer. Check everything, even private vehicle records, and find out where she went. And investigate everyone who was close to her. Don’t leave out a single one.”

“Yes, Mr. Carter.”

After he hung up, Adrian dropped onto the bench in the hallway and leaned back against the cold wall, his mind in complete chaos.

He closed his eyes, but all he could see was Summer’s deadened stare.

And then the question she had thrown at him at the birthday banquet came back again.

“Do you actually want a lover, or do you just want an obedient dog?”

The words kept echoing in his ears, stabbing into his heart again and again.

He only wanted to keep her by his side.

He only didn’t want to lose her.

Was that really wrong?

He had arranged everything for her. He had given her the best life possible. So why couldn’t she just stay

where he wanted her, quietly and obediently? Why did she have to run?

He didn’t know how much time had passed before his phone suddenly rang.

His assistant’s voice came quickly through the line.

“Mr. Carter, someone deliberately concealed all of Mrs. Carter’s identifying information. We can’t find a

single travel record for her at all. But… while we were following other leads, we found something even more

important. It’s about Miss Monroe. Something about it feels off, and I think you need to see it for yourself.”

Adrian’s eyes darkened.

Almost instinctively, he looked up at Lola, who was still standing off to the side with her head lowered.

“Send me everything.”
