He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 06

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 06

The Carter patriarch’s birthday banquet soon arrived.

After days of gray skies, the sun finally broke through. Light streamed past the iron bars on the window and fell across Summer. The wound in her leg was still throbbing faintly, and the days of neglect and abuse had

left her body weaker than ever.

Then she heard footsteps outside, followed by the bodyguards’ respectful greetings.

She didn’t even need to look up to know who had come.

“Get up. You’re coming to the estate with me.” Adrian’s voice was ice-cold as he looked down at the woman

in the wheelchair.

Summer slowly lifted her eyes. There was nothing in them but emptiness.

She didn’t resist. She simply let the bodyguards wheel her into the car.

The atmosphere inside was suffocating. Lola deliberately leaned closer to Adrian and murmured something softly to him, but he didn’t respond. His gaze stayed fixed out the window, though when he caught sight of Summer’s pale profile from the corner of his eye, irritation flared inside him for no clear reason.

Once the car had pulled away from the prison, Adrian finally spoke, his tone full of warning.

“When we get to the estate, behave yourself. Don’t even think about complaining to the patriarch. It won’t do you any good. If I can lock you up once, I can keep you locked up for the rest of your life.”

Summer said nothing. She didn’t look at him or answer.

The car rolled through the gates of the old Carter estate, and the instant they stepped into the main hall, Summer, who had been silent the entire ride, suddenly spoke.

“Adrian, do you actually want a lover, or do you just want an obedient dog?”

Adrian’s face darkened at once. The air around him turned sharp and heavy as he spun around and stared at

her in the wheelchair.

“If you weren’t so disobedient, if you weren’t always trying to leave me and betray me at every turn, do you think I’d treat you like this?”

Summer curled her lips into a faint, cold smile and said nothing more.

But that brief exchange did not escape the patriarch’s notice.

The Carter patriarch looked at Summer, then at his furious grandson, and let out a quiet sigh.

Halfway through the birthday banquet, he claimed he wasn’t feeling well and had the butler quietly wheel

Summer into a secluded room at the back of the house.

There was no one else inside.

The old man’s eyes were faintly red as he looked at her. “You’ve suffered so much, child.”

Summer’s nose stung. Fighting back tears, she shook her head.

The patriarch reached into his jacket, took out a delicate little wooden box, and placed it on her lap. “These

are the baby’s ashes. I kept them for you all this time. Now I’m giving them back.”

The moment Summer saw the urn, her whole body jolted, and the emotions she had been holding back burst

loose. Tears poured down her face.

This was her child.

The tiny life that had never even gotten the chance to truly see the world.

“Grandpa…” she choked out, her suppressed sobs echoing through the room.

The patriarch patted her shoulder gently. “Go, child. Leave this place, and never come back. I’ve arranged a

car. It’ll take you away.”

Clutching the urn to her chest, Summer dropped to her knees and pressed her forehead to the floor in front

of him.

She knew the old man was gambling with everything, using the full weight of his authority to buy her one

chance at freedom.

By the time Adrian realized Summer was gone, the banquet was already nearly over.

He tore through the house like a madman looking for her, until at last the patriarch called him into the study.

Inside, the old man sat in his chair, shaking with anger as he looked at his obsessive grandson standing

before him.

“I had her sent back to the hospital.”

He paused, then continued, “Adrian, let me make one thing very clear. The Carter family will never accept Lola or the bastard she’s carrying. So give that fantasy up.”

Adrian’s eyes went bloodshot, and the knuckles of his clenched fists turned white. “Grandpa, why do you

always take her side? What’s so good about her?”

“What’s so good about her?” the patriarch shot back. “With the way you try to keep someone by your side, it

would only be natural if Summer didn’t love you.”

Adrian went rigid. He dug his nails so hard into his own palm that blood began to seep out.

“She has to love me. She has to stay by my side for the rest of her life. She isn’t allowed to take a single step

away from me.”

With that, he turned and stormed out of the study. Pulling out his phone, he called the hospital.

“Keep your eyes on Summer. Double the security. Without my order, she doesn’t leave that hospital. If anyone

lets her go, they’ll pay for it.”
