He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 03

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 03

At the hospital, Summer struggled and screamed for help.

But the people around her only watched with cold eyes, and the doctors pretended not to hear. Just like that, she was wheeled straight into the operating room.

“Give her the medication that will keep her from walking. Right now.”

Adrian said it so casually, but the words detonated inside her like a bomb.

Her pupils trembled violently.

“What are you doing? Don’t inject me! Let me go! Please!”

At that point, she didn’t even care whether Adrian discovered the truth anymore. She thrashed wildly, trying to get off the bed and escape, but the doctors pinned her down with all their strength.

“Mr. Carter… Are you sure about this?”

“I said do it.”

Adrian’s face was cold, his tone absolute.

The doctor beside him could only shake his head helplessly. “Go get the medication.”

Two minutes later, the substance was administered to her.

Pain tore through her so violently she couldn’t stop screaming. “It hurts… Adrian, let me go.”

Adrian cupped her sweat-soaked face, his voice unbearably gentle. “It’ll be over soon, Summer. I told you before, I’m going to make you understand that you can only depend on me.”

She stared up at the ceiling in despair as tears ran endlessly down her face.

It had been like this two years ago too.

Back then, Adrian said it was because he loved her. Now he said it was because he didn’t want her to leave.

Every word he spoke sounded tender, full of attachment and love.

But Summer had never understood what Adrian’s love actually was.

All she wanted was to get away.

When she woke up again, three days had passed.

Summer touched her leg and pressed hard. She could still feel it.

Bracing herself against the bed, she forced herself upright and took two steps, only to collapse to the floor.

So the effect hadn’t fully taken hold.

If she kept training, her leg should still be able to recover.

Just then, the door opened.

“Summer, what are you doing?” Lola’s surprised voice rang out through the room. “Your legs are basically dead, so stop being so stubborn and trying to get up.”

Then she added, “You’re not still thinking about leaving Adrian, are you?”

That single sentence made Adrian’s face darken instantly.

“If leaving me is all you ever think about,” he said coldly, “then this time, I’ll let you leave.”

Summer looked up at him almost at once. Suspicion flashed in her eyes, followed by surprise, then the faintest trace of hope, and Adrian caught every bit of it.

Once again, he was certain of it.

His wife wanted to leave him.

His voice dropped low, stripped of all warmth. “Without the title of Mrs. Carter, without the Carter family backing you, you’ll find out exactly what life looks like once you leave me. You won’t even have a chance to survive.”

Summer frowned. “What are you talking about?”

Lola spoke up from beside him, satisfaction glittering in her eyes. “I suggested that Adrian let you experience what life is really like as a disabled person. Then you’ll understand how harsh the outside world is and how good he’s actually been to you.”

“You can’t do this to me, Adrian,” Summer said, her voice shaking.

But Adrian didn’t listen.

His bodyguards dumped her out onto the street and took her wheelchair away. She hit the pavement face-first. Her legs were useless, and all she could do was crawl.

She tried asking strangers for help, but everyone avoided her.

She finally managed to borrow a phone and call a friend, but the moment the friend heard her voice, they hung up on her.

She tried to reach the Carter patriarch, but the line to the estate wouldn’t even go through.

She knew exactly what this was.

Adrian had arranged all of it.

He wanted her to submit. He wanted her to admit she was wrong. He wanted her to understand that she would never be able to leave him.

Then a light rain began to fall.

People around her started running for cover. She tried to drag herself somewhere dry, but people kept stepping on her hands and feet as they rushed past.

“Please… watch out… please…”

The skin on her delicate hands and feet was scraped raw, and her skin was scraped raw, leaving painful abrasions.

At that moment, Summer lay sprawled on the ground, battered and covered in mud, looking like a homeless woman.

As the rain washed over her, memories of Adrian came flooding back.

When they were eighteen, Adrian had told her that once he chose someone, she belonged with him for life.

She had smiled and said yes.

He always gave her the best of everything. Everything girls in love dreamed about, she had. Plush toys, necklaces, glass slippers, and even handmade gifts he crafted himself.

He never held back when it came to loving her. Whenever danger came, Adrian always stepped in front of her first.

He used to say, “You’re my treasure. I’ll cherish you for the rest of my life.”

But they had known each other for seven years, and by the fourth, he had already started cheating.

And now she was lying in the street, injured and drenched by the rain, while strangers mocked her.

She rolled onto her back and looked up at the sky.

Rain fell across her face, and suddenly she laughed.

Adrian.

You win.
