He Slept With Her In My House I Made It His Worst Mistake Chapter 04

Monday.

I took a half day off and went to the bank.

At the counter, I requested the past six months of transaction records for Bradley’s savings account.

I could access the joint account without issue. His personal account required authorization, but I had it. He’d signed the form last year when we bought insurance. It was still valid.

They printed everything out.

I sat in the lobby and went through it page by page.

On page three, I stopped.

The fifteenth of every month.

A fixed transfer. $3,800.

Recipient: Chloe Bennett.

Note: none.

Four consecutive months.

$3,800.

$3,800.

$3,800.

$3,800.

His monthly salary was $12,000.

He sent Chloe $3,800 every single month.

I kept reading.

Hotel charges.

April 12. Vantage Point Hotel. $198.

May 3. North Star Boutique. $380.

May 19. Vantage Point Hotel. $198.

June 2. The Reveler Grand. $420.

June 28. Vantage Point Hotel. $198.

July 11. The Reveler Grand. $420.

Six transactions.

Four months.

I made two copies of everything and secured the originals.

That evening, I went home.

Bradley was in the kitchen, wearing an apron, cooking four dishes like nothing in the world was wrong.

“Why are you late?” he asked.

“Worked late,” I said calmly.

“Come eat first.”

I sat down.

“Bradley.”

He looked up. “Yeah?”

“Where did you go on April 12?”

He froze for a second. His utensils hovered midair. “April? That was a while ago. I don’t remember.”

I let out a quiet laugh. “I do. Friday, April 12. You said you went to Silvercreek to meet a client. Stayed overnight.”

“…Yeah. Right.”

“Your bank card shows a $198 charge at Vantage Point Hotel that day. That hotel is three miles from your office. Not in Silvercreek.”

He set his utensils down. “You checked my bank account?”

“I have your authorization. You signed it last year.”

He started scrambling. “That day, the client canceled last minute, so I just…”

“May 3. North Star Boutique. $380. You told me you were working late until eleven. That place isn’t anywhere near your office.”

“You…”

“May 19. Vantage Point Hotel. June 2. The Reveler Grand. June 28. Vantage Point Hotel…”

“Enough.” He stood up, voice rising. “How long have you been digging through my stuff? Are you checking on me every day?”

I smiled coldly. “No. Just today. Took me thirty minutes.”

He choked on his words. “You…”

“And one more thing.” I held his gaze. “Every fifteenth. $3,800 to Chloe. Four months in a row.”

His mouth opened.

Closed.

Opened again.

“That’s… she borrowed it.”

I laughed. “Borrowed? Same amount, same day, four months straight? That’s your explanation?”

“She had family issues…”

“Bradley,” I said evenly. “You make $12,000 a month. You give her $3,800. Do you know how much you give this household?”

Silence.

I tilted my head. “Three thousand. You give your own home $3,000. You give her $3,800.”

“That’s different…”

“How?”

He sat back down. His hands clenched under the table, knuckles turning white. “What do you want from me?”

I looked at him, nothing but disappointment left. “Nothing. Just answer one question.”

“What?”

“Mark told me you’ve been looking at necklaces. Anniversary gift.”

His eyes flickered.

“I checked your messages with him. July 15. Your exact words were: Do me a favor. Tell Vivian you saw me looking at necklaces at the mall.”

His face didn’t just pale. It turned gray. Like everything had crashed at once and he was trying to calculate a way out, but every exit was blocked.

“That was…”

I let out a breath. “You even needed help lying.”

He said nothing.

His hand came out from under the table. He loosened his tie, not because he was hot, but because he needed something to do.

I set my utensils down.

“Finish your meal.”
