He Slept With Her In My House I Made It His Worst Mistake Chapter 01

By the time the company team-building event wrapped up, my husband was gone.

A coworker told me he had stepped out to take a call and never came back. The one who disappeared with him was Chloe Bennett from Marketing.

I opened my phone and checked his location.

The blue dot sat still on a place I knew far too well.

Lakeside Vista. Building 7. Unit 1402.

My apartment.

I didn’t call anyone.

I grabbed my bag, told my manager I wasn’t feeling well, and took a rideshare straight to Lakeside Vista.

I had bought that place before I got married. 1,050 Square Feet. Two bedrooms, south-facing. Nine hundred sixty thousand dollars, paid in full. Six years of savings, plus eighty thousand from my parents.

The deed had only one name on it. Mine.

Bradley Thorne knew that. I still remembered what he said at the time.

“If it’s your name, it’s your name. We’re married. Why split hairs over yours and mine?”

Back then, I thought he was generous.

Now I realized something else.

It’s easy to be generous when you didn’t pay a cent.

I arrived downstairs at the building and looked up at the fourteenth floor.

The lights were on.

I went upstairs and stood outside the door.

I entered the passcode.

Wrong.

I tried again.

Wrong.

My apartment. And I couldn’t get in.

I knocked.

There was movement inside. Footsteps. Then silence for a few seconds.

I knocked again. “Open the door.”

It opened.

Bradley stood there.

I recognized the look on his face. Every time he was about to lie, he looked exactly like this. A half-second pause, then a forced smile.

“What are you doing here?”

I didn’t answer him.

I looked past him.

Chloe was sitting on the couch in the living room. She had on slippers. Two cups of coffee sat on the table, one half-finished.

When she saw me, she stood up. “Ms. Rhodes…”

My voice turned cold. “You’re wearing slippers in my house?”

She froze.

Bradley reached for my arm. “Just listen to me, okay…”

“You changed the passcode to my apartment.”

He choked on his words. “I…”

I kept my tone calm. “My place. You changed the code. What is it now?”

He said nothing.

I smiled. “What’s the code?”

Still nothing.

From behind him, Chloe spoke softly. “Bradley, maybe I should go…”

“Don’t go yet.” I looked straight at her. “How many times have you been here?”

She panicked. “Ms. Rhodes, I…”

“How many times?”

She glanced at Bradley. He didn’t look at her. She swallowed and muttered, “Just… just this once. We came by after the team event. It was on the way.”

“On the way?” I let out a quiet laugh. “Lakeside Vista is in the south side of St. Valerion. The team event was in the north. And you’re telling me this was on the way?”

She fell silent.

I walked in.

The living room was spotless. Cleaner than the last time I had been here. Two mugs sat on the coffee table. One blue, one pink.

I had only ever bought the blue one.

I let out a cold laugh. “Whose pink mug is that?”

Bradley said, “I bought it. Just randomly…”

I cut him off. “Since when do you drink out of a pink mug?”

His mouth opened.

No answer.

I walked to the shoe cabinet and opened it.

Inside was a pair of women’s sneakers. White. Size 6.

I wore an 8.

I took them out and set them on the coffee table.

“You randomly bought these too?”
