He Skipped Our Wedding License 10 Times but Married My Bestie Chapter 09

For a while after leaving Derrick, the withdrawal hit me hard.

At first, I would just wake up gasping at three in the morning, reaching out only to grasp cold,

empty sheets.

When it got worse, my stomach would churn violently; even if I hadn’t eaten all day, I’d end up dry-heaving over a trash can, bringing up nothing but acid.

Whenever I saw a familiar silhouette on the street, I’d lose focus and instinctively grab the man’s jacket, only to realize it was a stranger.

I thought I was losing my mind.

I was torturing myself, turning into a ghost of who used to be, all over a piece of trash.

Every single memory felt like being buried alive.

It was a grueling process of watching myself get ripped to pieces, then forcing my own hands to put the shards back together.

To forget Derrick and Saylor, I buried myself in books, reading anything and everything I could find. Through the bone marrow donation, I met Mr. Whitlock.

I donated marrow to his younger sister, becoming a lifesaver to their family, and his sister became my new best friend.

Later, the Whitlock family offered to sponsor my education.

I moved abroad, successfully graduated from Stanford, and eventually launched my own company.

The Whitlocks provided the connections and the initial capital. And I made sure to sign an IOU for

every penny.

These past few years taught me one absolute truth you can’t rely on anyone but yourself.

I went from a corporate novice who used to walk into the wrong banquet halls to a professional who could pitch confidently to rooms full of financial titans without flinching.

When Derrick finally found me, he happened to catch me stepping out of Mr. Whitlock’s Maybach.

I’d actually thought about what I’d do if we ever crossed paths again.

I thought if I made it big, I’d wear red-bottom heels, kick him square between the legs, and casually throw a wad of cash in his face.

And if my life ended up ruined, I’d drag him and Saylor straight to hell with me.

Yet, now that he was actually standing in front of me, my heart didn’t even skip a beat.
