He Skipped Our Wedding License 10 Times but Married My Bestie Chapter 08

A month later, inside a dimly lit VIP lounge of a private club.

Derrick downed one glass of hard liquor after another, desperate to numb the agonizing ache in his

chest.

“Derek, you finally won over high-society’s finest, Miss Chair. Why the long face? Besides, that

broke girl found out the truth and didn’t even make a scene?”

“Yeah, bro, if you’re actually done with her, how about passing her over to me? I’ve been dying to

hear what she sounds like in bed. Must be wild.”

The next second, a heavy glass shattered over the speaker’s head.

The room went dead silent instantly.

Everyone exchanged tense glances, terrified to guess which specific word had triggered the young

heir’s violent rage.

“You? You think you’re worthy of her?”

Someone quickly stepped in to smooth things over and the tense atmosphere slowly relaxed.

Derrick, his eyes bloodshot, continued to drink heavily.

Finally, one of his friends couldn’t take it anymore. He snatched the glass from Derrick’s hand, his

voice filled with confusion and contempt.

“Enough, Derek! Who are you putting on this devoted act for?”

Derrick snapped his head up, glaring at him with crimson eyes. “What did you say?”

“You heard me,” the friend sneered, laying it all out. You and Nevaeh never had a wedding, and you

never got a license. At best, this is just a breakup.”

“On top of that, you used to joke about her with us all the time. If you actually cared about her, you would’ve kept her completely to yourself.”

Another guy chimed in. “Exactly. When Nevaeh finally managed to get her shop running, Miss Chair

said she couldn’t stand seeing her succeed. So, you had us go over there like a bunch of thugs to

trash the place.”

“Now that she’s gone, you’re suddenly panicking? Where was this energy before? You just took

advantage of the fact that she loved you and couldn’t leave you.”

They went back and forth, dragging up every terrible thing he had ever done to me, forcing him to

face it all.

The words hit Derrick like a punch to the chest. He froze, rooted to the spot.

“No… that’s not true…” he muttered, his voice weak and entirely hollow. “I just…”

Just what?

Just afraid of losing her?

Just went about it the wrong way?

Or just scared that Nevaeh would turn out like his mother-that she’d only love him for his money?

Not even he could buy his own flimsy excuses.

Before he could spiral further into regret, the lounge door flew open.

Saylor burst into the room, tears streaming down her face.

Ignoring the judgmental stares of everyone present she threw herself at Derrick, grabbing his arm tightly. “Derek… I’m pregnant! It’s yours!”

Those words hit him like a second thunderbolt, freezing the blood in Derrick’s veins.

The rest of the guys went completely quiet, their expressions shifting to a mix of amusement and cynicism, as if this was exactly what they expected

Derrick violently shook her hand off, his expression turning terrifyingly cold. The alcohol cleared

from his system instantly.

He stared directly at Saylor, forcing out each syllable. “What. Did. You. Say?”

Saylor flinched at the pure venom in his eyes, but she pressed on, sobbing. “That night… in the car… Derek, this is our baby…”

Derrick remained silent for a long while.

“Fine. I’ll take responsibility,” he said flatly.

Before Saylor could even process the relief, Derrick grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her toward the exit without a shred of gentleness.

“Derek? Where are we going?” Saylor asked, panic rising in her voice.

“The clinic,” Derrick replied, his voice devoid of any warmth. “To get you checked. If you’re actually

pregnant, we’re getting rid of it.”

“What?” Saylor shrieked. “This is your child! How can you be so cruel?”

“My child?” Derrick stopped dead in his tracks and turned to look at her, his gaze frozen. “Saylor, you’ve run around with so many guys. How can you be so sure it’s mine?”

Saylor’s eyes widened in utter disbelief, filling rapidly with tears. “Derek, how could you say that? You know exactly what kind of person I am. Yes, I’ve hung out with a lot of guys, but I never slept with any of them.”

A sudden realization struck her, and she let out a bitter laugh, wrapping her fingers around his tie. “You’ve actually fallen for that broke little nobody, haven’t you?”

“What if I have?” he admitted without hesitation.

Saylor burst into a cynical laugh, doubling over. “Haha… that’s hilarious. Knowing Nevaeh the way I do, she will never forgive you in this lifetime.”

“After all, you destroyed the only lifeline she ever had to save herself.”

“I’ll handle the pregnancy myself, Derek. Trash like us doesn’t deserve to be loved anyway.”

With that, Saylor turned on her heel and walked away.

Derrick stood completely frozen in the corridor, her final words echoing in his mind.

Not deserve it?

He refused to believe that.
