He Signed Me As Nanny Not Wife For Ten Years Chapter 08

That very night, a rancher hurried over.

The moment he saw Ethan, he grabbed his arm and started pulling him outside.

“Dr. Hayes, my cow’s having trouble calving! You’ve got to come take a look. Please!”

My eyes widened.

Ethan looked at me helplessly. “Dr. Hart, you should come too.”

Only after we arrived at the rancher’s home did I learn that Ethan had become a local legend among the ranchers because of his skill with deliveries.

For example, at that moment, he was in the cattle pen, sleeves rolled up, working urgently to help the cow calve.

Meanwhile, Nellie and I were pulled into chairs by the warm and enthusiastic Hannah Reed.

She clearly liked Nellie.

One moment, she was giving Nellie a handful of trail mix. The next, she was peeling a pear for her.

Seeing me keep glancing toward the cattle pen, Hannah smiled.

“Dr. Hayes is really good. Don’t worry.”

When Ethan finally came out of the barn with his sleeves rolled up, he saw me and smiled.

“She’s fine.”

I let out a breath of relief.

When we left the Reed family’s ranch, they stuffed Nellie’s arms full of snacks.

Nellie had arrived empty-handed and left loaded with gifts.

Seeing that she liked being around Hannah, I did not refuse out loud.

Privately, I thought I would help Hannah more in other ways later.

After half a year in the Southwest, I had become Dr. Hart, the doctor the ranching families trusted most.

The girls especially liked coming to me for small problems they were too embarrassed to bring to anyone else.

Winter there was bitterly cold.

As someone who had grown up much farther south, Nellie and I spent almost every day huddled inside our little room with the woodstove burning, barely daring to step outside.

Nellie roasted chestnuts by the stove.

As she peeled them, she fed little pieces to the black puppy at her feet.

The puppy’s name was Shadow.

He had been Hannah’s birthday gift to Nellie.

Nellie loved him.

When Ethan knocked and came in, he first stood by the door and shook the cold from his coat.

Then he walked over and handed me a small tin of cold cream.

I froze.

For a moment, I did not know whether I should accept it.

Truthfully, Ethan had helped me a lot over the past six months.

Seeing my hesitation, he smiled.

His clear eyes held no improper intention. “It’s for Nellie. The wind has chapped her little face. Don’t feel burdened.”

I smiled awkwardly and reached for it.

Before my fingers could touch the tin, the door was shoved open from outside.

The moment I saw that familiar figure, all the blood in my body went cold.

Adrian.

When Adrian saw me, emotions surged in his eyes.

In the end, they finally settled into the joy of finding me again.

“Evelyn! I… I’ve been looking for you for so long. Do you have any idea how much I missed you?”

He stood where he was, his dazed gaze moving over me.

His eyes were faintly red.

I almost laughed.

Who was he putting on this performance of deep love for?

Adrian stiffly turned his head.

When he saw Nellie beside the stove, her little face flushed from the heat, his voice caught.

“Nellie…”

Hearing her name, Nellie finally pulled her attention away from Shadow.

She looked at Adrian calmly and tilted her head.

With innocent confusion, she asked, “Mister, do I know you?”

Adrian’s face went pale.
