He Scorned Me, Now I’m a CEO He Can’t Afford Chapter 21

At first, security wouldn’t let him in.

But Wyatt looked so close to the edge that he finally drew the attention of the competition chair, Ms. Thompson.

“Wyatt?” She stepped out of her office and frowned at the man arguing with her security guards. “What on earth are you doing?”

When Wyatt saw her, he felt a surge of desperate hope.

He shook off the guards and strode toward her, his voice trembling with suppressed emotion.

“Ms. Thompson, Lena’s plan… it was for a partnership between our ranches, right? Tell me. Was that it?”

Ms. Thompson stared at his wild, red-rimmed eyes, first stunned, then quickly composing herself.

She gently withdrew her hand from his grip, her tone all business.

“Wyatt, Lena’s plan was an independent project from start to finish. The two-hundred-thousand-dollar prize she won has already been registered as start-up capital for her own company, located across Red Creek River.”

The last pillar of Wyatt’s hope crumbled.

He staggered back, shaking his head.

“Why… She wasn’t… She didn’t do all this for me?”

Ms. Thompson’s expression hardened, the last trace of sympathy in her eyes fading.

“Mr. Wyatt,” she said coldly, “Lena has always been exceptional. She got where she is today on her own merit. It was never for you.”
