He Said Of Course to Everything, and I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 03

My fingers trembled as I scrolled through post after post.

Every single one showed another happy moment Nolan had shared with Sienna.

They’d gone to the beach, sitting shoulder to shoulder on the sand and kissing passionately as the sun set.

They’d hiked together, holding hands along the trail and cuddling close at the summit.

They’d run freely through endless green fields and gazed into each other’s eyes beneath a sky full of stars.

All that time, I’d been working tirelessly overseas, doing everything I could to give my family a better life.

Paige watched me with concern. After a long silence, she asked softly, “So… what are you going to do now?”

I drained my glass and let out a quiet, humorless laugh.

“I’m going to make them pay.”

As I was leaving the bar, Nolan called.

“Where are you?”

“The party’s over. You can come home now.”

In the past, I’d have responded to Nolan immediately, no matter how busy I was.

This time, I simply ended the call and turned to Paige.

“I have a few things to take care of. Thanks for handling the divorce agreement for me.”

When I got home, Nolan was sitting on the couch, smiling down at his phone.

At the sound of the door, he looked up sharply. Then he hurried over, greeting me with a smile as if nothing had happened.

“You must be exhausted after that long flight. Why don’t you take a hot shower?”

When I didn’t respond, he took a deep breath, his expression growing impatient.

“Lena, I’ve had a long day. I’m not in the mood to fight.”

“You just got back, and you’re already giving me attitude. What’s the point?”

“And haven’t I told you I don’t like it when you drink? Do you ever listen to a word I say? Do you even care about me?”

Before he could say anything else, his phone buzzed.

He immediately picked it up and began typing, making no effort to hide what he was doing.

But when he noticed me looking, he quickly tucked the phone behind his back. His irritation was obvious.

“Are you going to keep this up?”

“If you’re going to act like this, you might as well not have come back!”

“Whatever. I’m going to bed.”

He didn’t offer a single explanation. Instead, he kept accusing and insulting me.

In the past, it wouldn’t have mattered whose fault it was. I’d have gone straight to him, wrapped my arms around him, and apologized over and over.

But this time, I didn’t.

Before Nolan could walk away, I turned and headed for the study without hesitation, unaware of the strange, unreadable look he gave me as I left.

Once inside, I turned on my computer and began organizing the evidence.

By the time I finished, I was thirsty, so I headed to the kitchen for some water.

As I passed the balcony, I noticed Nolan talking on the phone.

He was keeping his voice low, but the house was so quiet that I could hear every word.

“Mom, I’m really grateful for all the support and help you’ve given me over the years. Without you, Sienna and I never would have gotten legally married.”

“We have to keep this from Lena. If she finds out, I’m afraid it could hurt Sienna…”
