He Said Of Course to Everything, and I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 01

I rushed home from overseas to surprise my husband for our anniversary.

But when I walked through the door, I found him playing a game with his friends where you had to agree to every accusation.

It was my best friend Sienna Hale’s turn to put him on the spot.

“You’ve been lying to Lena Marlowe about being broke all this time just so you could be with me, right?”

“Of course.”

“You told Lena you were infertile, but we just had our second baby. You just never wanted to have children with her.”

“Of course.”

“You hired someone to cripple Lena’s left leg back then, didn’t you? You did it to get revenge for me.”

“Of course.”

He even laughed and added, “She humiliated you in front of everyone. She got what she deserved!”

I stood frozen, watching the two of them embrace, gazing at each other with undisguised affection.

Then my eyes fell on the banner behind them.

“Nolan Cross & Sienna Hale — Welcome, Baby No. 2!”

I turned and dropped the documents in my hand into a trash can.

Neither of them knew I’d come home with a surprise for them.

…

Nolan looked in my direction, panic written all over his face.

Once he recovered, he hurried toward me and lowered his voice so only I could hear.

“What are you doing back all of a sudden?”

“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”

Before I could answer, someone called out from behind him.

“Nolan, it’s time. The party’s about to start.”

Nolan immediately pushed me toward the door, his tone leaving no room for argument.

“Go find somewhere else to wait.”

“I have something important to take care of. I’ll come find you when I’m done.”

Then, without a moment’s hesitation, he shut the door in my face.

My phone buzzed again.

It was a message from my mother.

Mom: [Go wait somewhere else for a while. Don’t interrupt us or embarrass us in front of everyone.]

I stared at the message and let out a bitter little laugh.

I had barely turned to leave when security guards came hurrying toward me.

“Ma’am, you’ll need to come with us. Mr. Cross says you’re trespassing.”

“Trespassing?”

I spent ages explaining myself to the guards. In the end, I even had to show them the marriage certificate I’d brought with me before they finally left.

After they were gone, I stood outside the front door for what felt like hours. The hallway lights went on and off, and the sound of laughter and conversation inside carried clearly through the door.

My phone buzzed again. This time, it was my assistant.

Assistant: [Ms. Marlowe, everything’s ready on my end. When should we move headquarters back to the States?]

For a moment, I could only stare at the message.

Seven years ago, the company Nolan ran had gone bankrupt, leaving him buried in debt.

I’d given him every penny I had, but it still wasn’t enough.

Overnight, everything had fallen apart.

To help him pay off his debts, I’d given up my own dreams and moved overseas with a friend, hoping to earn more money.

For seven years, I’d left for work early, come home late, and never taken a day off. I even ate just one meal a day to save money.

Eventually, I’d saved enough, and my timing couldn’t have been better. The artificial intelligence boom took off, and the startup I’d founded grew into an industry leader both in the States and abroad.

That was the surprise I’d planned to share with them today.

But now, there was no point.

Me: [We’re not moving headquarters after all.]

After sending the message, I opened my chat with my friend Paige Sullivan.

Me: [I need a favor. Can you prepare a divorce agreement for me?]
