He Said I Love Him Enough to Let Him Marry Her and Kill Our Child Chapter 01

“I’m pregnant. If you don’t propose soon, we won’t be able to keep it quiet much longer.”

I held up the lab report, half-joking with my fiancé, Tristan Shaw.

Tristan laughed, dripping with sarcasm. “Baby, what are you talking about? I’m already married. How can I propose to you?”

My mind went blank. Tristan pulled out his marriage certificate. His name next to hers. Bianca Harrington.

He said, matter-of-fact, “I know you love me for me, not for legal recognition.”

“But Bianca’s different. If I don’t give her the wife title, she’ll break up with me.”

“Elena, you love me so much. You don’t want me to be miserable, do you?”

Tears streamed down my face. “But I’m pregnant.”

Tristan’s dismissive “Oh, right” gutted me. “Go ahead and get rid of it. I promised Bianca our first child would be hers.”

I couldn’t stop sobbing. “Why are you doing this?”

Tristan looked completely unfazed. “Elena, didn’t you always say if you love someone, you set them free?”

“Well, I want Bianca now. So set me free. You don’t want me to be miserable, do you? You love me so much. Just love me enough to share.”

His words made me physically sick.

I bit my lip so hard it nearly bled. “We’re done.”

Tristan blinked, then his mouth twisted into a mocking grin. “Breaking up? Fine. But you’re still getting rid of it.”

His cold indifference left me frozen in place.

When I didn’t speak, his grin widened. “Knew you didn’t have the guts. Stop bluffing, Elena. Pull this again and I’m gone. Begging won’t save you.”

My fists clenched so tight my nails broke the skin of my palms.

I stared into Tristan’s eyes, clinging to a last shred of hope. “This is just a sick joke, isn’t it?”

Tristan didn’t answer with words. He reached up and stroked my face, gentle and tender.

My heart lifted for just a second.

It really was a joke. The Tristan who loved me could never be this cruel.

Then his hand clamped around my throat.

He squeezed, hard. I gasped in pain, mouth flying open, and he shoved a pill down my throat. It slid past my gag reflex and into my stomach before I could even react.

I dropped to my knees, clutching my neck, retching.

Tears poured down my face, but nothing came up.

“What did you give me?” My voice was raw, barely a whisper.

“Abortion pill,” Tristan said, flat as if he’d told me the time. “Bianca was very clear. Take care of it.”

My heart plummeted into the abyss.

The cramps hit fast, a searing, twisting pain in my abdomen. Sweat beaded on my forehead, cold and slick.

I crawled into the bathroom. My whole body gave out, and I collapsed to the floor, my head cracking against the toilet with a sickening thud.

Tristan never came to check on me. From the living room, I heard the sound effects of his video game. He was playing.

I couldn’t even cry anymore.

My phone buzzed against the tile.

A text from my mom: [Elena, your father and I booked a ballroom at Belmont Manor. Bring your boyfriend.]

I wiped my face with the back of my hand and typed back, [Mom, I’ll come alone. We broke up.]

I’d gone missing when I was five. I’d only found my biological parents three days ago. They’d searched for me for two decades, and when they finally saw me, they broke down sobbing.

That’s when I learned they were powerful. The kind of power that reshapes the world around it.

I’d planned for Tristan to propose today, then I’d introduce him to my parents afterward. Now? Forget it.

The bathroom door crashed open.

Tristan rushed in, his face tight with urgency. “Did it pass yet?”

I didn’t answer.

His hands were on me, ripping at my clothes. I fought, but I had nothing left. I couldn’t stop him. I lay there, humiliated and bleeding, trying and failing to cover myself.

Tristan held his phone over the mess of blood and tissue. “Don’t worry, babe. It’s done. I saw it myself.”

From the other end of the call, Bianca Harrington’s voice came through. “Tristan, send me the video. I want my friends to see. Just in case she tries to fake it.”
