He Said I Love Him Enough to Let Him Marry Her and Kill Our Child Chapter 03

When my eyes opened again, I was lying on a bed in a dilapidated urgent care on the outskirts of town. Tristan was slouched in a chair beside me.

“Well, Elena,” he said, his voice dripping with condescension. “I saved you again. So why are you always so ungrateful?”

“How am I ungrateful?” My voice was barely a rasp.

Tristan didn’t answer. He turned to the doctor. “Are we good? As long as the bleeding’s stopped.”

The doctor hesitated. “The bleeding’s under control for now, but…”

Tristan didn’t let him finish. He grabbed my arm and yanked me off the bed. I stumbled, weak and dizzy, as he shoved me into the car.

“Where are we going?” I managed.

He didn’t answer.

The ride blurred past, a fog of exhaustion and pain, until the car slowed. Through the window, I saw Belmont Manor.

Wait. Belmont Manor? Where my parents were holding the banquet? The event where they planned to introduce me to high society? Why did Tristan bring me here? Was he actually going to meet my parents?

I couldn’t finish the thought before Tristan dragged me out of the car.

“Bianca, I brought Elena,” he announced, stepping into a private room.

My heart slammed against my ribs.

Inside, the room was filled with women in formal dresses. Bianca stood at the center, dressed, styled, and surrounded like she was royalty.

The moment she saw me, she recoiled like I was filth. “Tristan, get this horrible woman away from me. I don’t want to see her.”

Tristan grabbed my hair and forced my head back. “Don’t worry, babe. I’m here.”

He turned on me, eyes hard. “Elena Grant, why did you post online that Bianca is the other woman?”

I shook my head, a weak, barely perceptible motion. “I didn’t.”

Tristan laughed, cold and sharp. “Who else would it be? You really think this lie is going to work?”

He stood up in front of everyone and pulled out the marriage certificate. “Bianca and I are married. She’s my wife. And Elena Grant? She’s not the other woman, she’s nothing. Don’t let her play you.”

To prove his point, Tristan bent down and slapped me across the face.

The crack of it echoed off the walls. I crumpled sideways but didn’t move. I didn’t fight. I’d take this one hit, consider it repayment for everything he’d done for me when we were kids. Even.

Bianca walked over, her voice trembling with fake tears. “Elena Grant, Tristan and I are married. Why would you spread rumors about us online?”

“I didn’t,” I said, my voice flat.

Bianca leaned close, her lips brushing my ear, and whispered, “I know you didn’t, you idiot. I posted it myself. I wanted Tristan to hate you. I wanted him to humiliate you in front of everyone.”

Her breath was hot, triumphant. “Do you know why I made him bring you here? There’s a banquet tonight. Every important person will be here. And I’m going to make sure they all know you’re the other woman. I’m going to bury you so deep you’ll never climb out.”

I stared at her, eyes wide.

Then Bianca let out a scream. “She bit me! Did you see that? She bit me!”

Tristan’s face twisted with fury. He drove his foot into my abdomen so hard I saw white.
