He Said Don’t Wait, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 29

The two men locked eyes, the air crackling with tension.
Finally, Garrett looked away, defeated. “You won’t win, Caldwell.”
“I already have,” Noah said simply. He walked around the table, took my hand, and pulled me behind him, shielding me with his body. His hand was warm and strong, chasing the last of the chill from my bones. “She’s my wife.”

On the drive home, I was silent, the ugly confrontation replaying in my mind. Noah’s arrival had been like a miracle, pulling me back from the brink. But a new, more complicated doubt was taking root.
“Those videos… those texts…” I finally said, my voice hoarse. “Did you plan for this from the beginning?”
He was quiet for a long moment. “I’m a lawyer, Maya. My job is to prepare for the worst-case scenario.”
“But what does that mean?” I pressed, turning to study his rigid profile.
He sighed, a heavy, weary sound. “It means I knew what kind of man Garrett was. I knew what his family was capable of. I kept those records to make sure that if you ever decided you wanted out, you would have a clean, undeniable exit.”
