He Said Don’t Wait, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 30

I looked at him, my heart at war with my head. The evidence he’d collected, the proof of my own pain, had felt like a violation. But that same evidence had just become my shield.
He gave a bitter, self-deprecating smile. “I know how it looks. But I swear to you, Maya, the only thing I’m guilty of is loving you for too long and planning too much.”
When we got home, he stood before me, his eyes pleadingly sincere. “Give me a chance to prove it. Give me time to show you that my love is a fortress, not a cage.”
I looked into his eyes and felt my defenses begin to crumble. But I wasn’t ready to surrender completely.
“Okay,” I said finally. “Time.”
He smiled, a wave of relief washing over his features. But the moment the tension eased between us, his phone rang.
Noah glanced at the caller ID, and his expression immediately sobered.
“What now?” I asked, my heart sinking.
He answered, putting the call on speaker. It was Marcus, his assistant.
“Sir,” Marcus’s crisp voice filled the room, “Sloane Mercer just contacted the office. She says she has important information about Mr. Whitaker. But… she’ll only give it to you. In person.”
