He Ran to Save Her from Being Erased, Not Knowing He Erased Himself from Me Chapter 15

He Ran to Save Her from Being Erased, Not Knowing He Erased Himself from Me Chapter 15

Sierra talked for a long time.

Tears ran down her face, and she wiped them away quickly.

I stared at her. “So you never actually liked Nolan?”

“Someone like me never expected to find love. In my mind, the only thing I wanted was that glass of wine.”

“No woman should have to waste seven years of her youth on a man. Love isn’t even worth a week of my

life.”

Sierra’s voice was firm.

I had nothing to say.

She sniffled and let out a long, relieved breath.

“I tricked Julian into coming back. I knew he had a crush on you, ever since that debate. I watched the whole

thing.”

“He didn’t disappoint me. He made Nolan furious. And because of Julian, Nolan decided to get back at you.

He’s going to marry me to make you regret it.”

Sierra smiled bitterly. “I know what he’s thinking. He hopes you’ll stop him from marrying me. He hopes you’ll

come back to him.”

“So I’m here to ask you for one last favor. Don’t stop it. Let me finish this.”

I understood now.

Nolan was trying to make me jealous.

He didn’t really want to marry Sierra. He made that decision out of anger.

If I changed my mind, he wouldn’t go through with it. And then Sierra’s mission would still fail.

“If Nolan marries you, does everything end? Does that mean your cancer disappears?” I asked.

“Yes. It all ends.” Sierra looked exhausted. “Seven years. I’m almost thirty. I’m so tired. When do I finally get to

drink that wine?”

She pulled a folded check from her pocket.

I looked at her, confused. She slid it across the table to me. “This is everything I saved. Eight thousand nine hundred dollars. I spent all my energy on Nolan, so this is all I could put away.”

“Consider it payment.”

I didn’t want her money, but she didn’t take it back.

She just finished her wine and left, dragging herself out the door.

I walked her out. At the gate, she turned and asked, “Do you still love Nolan?”

“Clearly, I don’t.” I was completely at peace.

“Then I have no guilt left. Nolan doesn’t deserve you anyway. He didn’t just leave you after I got cancer. He left you many times before that.”

Sierra sneered.

“Many times?”

“Yes. I was something convenient. Pretty, well-behaved, sweet. Nolan didn’t love me, but he enjoyed being

chased.”

“He pretended to be annoyed, but whenever I asked to talk or hang out, he never said no. Even when he was

on dates with you, he would make excuses to see me.”

“He’s really good at keeping someone on the hook.”

She flipped her hair. “He loves you. He loves you like crazy. But he also likes playing with someone who

asked for nothing.”

So for seven years, Nolan had enjoyed having someone chase him. He never completely rejected Sierra. That

was why his attitude changed so suddenly when she got cancer.

He didn’t hate her. She hated him. Because she was forced to chase him.

I scoffed.

After Sierra left, Hailey ran downstairs. “Is that awful woman gone? What did she say?”

“Nothing much.” I put the credit card away.

Hailey looked suspicious. “Why did Sierra come? Is my brother really going to marry her?”

“Yes.”

Nolan was losing his mind. He was trying to get a reaction out of me.

The next day, he called a big family dinner at my house.

My parents thought Nolan had finally come to his senses to apologize.

Mr. and Mrs. Hartley were happy too, smiling over their tea. “It would be wonderful if you two make up.”

“As for Sierra Vance, we’ve done all we can. Not kicking her out is more than she deserves.”

“Right. Nolan and Elara should get engaged. We’ll pay for Sierra’s treatment.” The relatives all meant well.

Nolan didn’t say a word. He just stared at me.

I ignored him.

He snorted. “Elara, did you have fun dancing with Julian Cross?”

The room went dead quiet. Everyone froze.

“Nolan, what are you saying?” Mr. Hartley demanded.

“I’m saying that Elara has quite the charm. She snagged the most impressive man from Westbrook.”

Nolan’s voice dripped with sarcasm. “She didn’t care when her own fiancé was hurt. But when someone else got injured, she rushed him to the hospital. She was probably crying her eyes out.”

“What are you barking about? I told you, I don’t know you. I feel nothing for you. Why can’t I dance with

another man?” I shot back.

Nolan slammed his hand on the table, his eyes red. “You’re still pretending to have amnesia?”

“I’m not pretending. I don’t know you. And yes, I remember Julian Cross. I’ve always admired him. He confessed to me, and I said yes.”

I dropped the bomb.

Everyone was shocked. Every relative stared in disbelief.

Nolan laughed in anger. He pointed at me, his voice hard. “I see. Good. Very good. Well, I’m marrying Sierra.

We’re done. You go your way, I’ll go mine.”

He turned and walked away without looking back.

I knew he was hoping I would call out to him.

So I did. “Wait.”

Nolan stopped immediately but didn’t turn around. He sneered, “What?”

“I’m getting engaged to Julian Cross the day after tomorrow. Make sure to bring a gift.” I reminded him.

His whole body went rigid. His fists clenched. Then he walked away.
