He Ran to Save Her from Being Erased, Not Knowing He Erased Himself from Me Chapter 11

He Ran to Save Her from Being Erased, Not Knowing He Erased Himself from Me Chapter 11

After Julian’s speech, the celebration reached its peak.

The hall turned into a party. Alumni of all ages talked and laughed, clinking glasses.

Hailey loved to eat. She wandered off and disappeared.

I was looking for her when Nolan walked over.

Eyes followed him everywhere he went. He had that kind of presence.

I had to admit, he was impressive.

But I didn’t want to see him. My first impression had already ruined any chance of that.

“Elara, you came.” Nolan said my name.

I nodded.

He smiled. “Did you come to see me? I don’t give speeches often. How did I do?”

I immediately lost any last bit of interest.

“Nolan, I’m just here to have fun. And I really don’t know you. Watch your words.” I snapped at him.

The alumni nearby went quiet, confused.

Nolan’s smile disappeared. He pressed his lips together, grabbed my arm, and pulled me away.

“What are you doing?” I couldn’t break free. My wrist hurt.

Nolan didn’t say anything. He dragged me to a quiet corner.

“Elara, is there really no love left between us? I know I messed up, but do you have to humiliate me over and

over?”

His jaw was tight. He looked hurt and angry.

“There’s no love because I don’t know you. How many times do I have to say it? I don’t know you.” My temper

flared. Who did he think he was?

Nolan punched the wall, his knuckles turning red.

“Fine. Keep pretending.” He exhaled hard, then turned and walked over to a nearby girl. He flashed her a

confident smile and asked her to dance.

The girl looked thrilled and immediately took his hand.

Nolan glanced back at me, his face cold.

I was speechless.

Was he a child?

“Elara Mitchell. Long time no see. Care to dance?”

A soft voice came from beside me. I turned and saw Julian smiling at me.

Julian was reserved and cool, so his gentle voice didn’t quite match his usual demeanor.

It was endearing.

I pointed at myself. “Me?”

“Yes, Elara.” Julian kept smiling.

I was suspicious. “You know me? I was basically invisible at Westbrook.”

“Not invisible. You were a star in the literature department. You destroyed me in a debate.” Julian seemed

amused.

I thought back. That rang a bell.

I had signed up for a debate on a whim, thinking it would be fun to compete with the best. I ended up winning first place.

One of my opponents was Julian.

I hadn’t paid him much attention then. Honestly, I hadn’t paid any guy much attention.

“I remember the topic was love vs. life. Our side chose love, your side chose life.” Julian looked nostalgic.

“We never had a chance. Love can’t be more important than life.”

“True. I was just lucky that day.” I was modest.

Julian laughed. “You won because you were good. Back then, you were unstoppable. You reminded me of a

tree growing on a cliff. So full of life.”

What kind of metaphor was that?

But it was a compliment, so I took it.

I accepted his offer to dance. It beat standing around being bored.
