He Paid for the Wrong Heart Chapter 06

He Paid for the Wrong Heart Chapter 06

That night, not long after I got back to the dorm, I received a message from Nolan.

Nolan: [Are you feeling better?]

I typed back.

Talia: [Yeah.]

After the message went through, the top of the screen kept showing that he was typing.

About four or five minutes later, his reply finally came.

Nolan: [About that whole mix-up, Hayes almost beat the hell out of me for it. I wanted to apologize to you ages ago, but he wouldn’t let me. He said it was over and told me not to bring it up and upset you.]

Nolan: [But since we’ve actually run into each other now, I figure I still owe you an apology.]

I thought for a moment before replying.

Talia: [It’s fine.]

After sending that, I went to take a shower.

When I came back out, there was an extra box of pastries sitting on my desk.

The packaging alone looked expensive.

Serena was doing a face mask.

When she saw me come out, she said, “Hayes bought them. I don’t really like sweets, so I figured I’d share them with you guys. They smell pretty good.”

I glanced over and saw that our other two roommates each had a box on their desks too.

Maybe it was because I had just showered, but my throat felt dry, and my voice came out a little hoarse.

“I’m watching my weight,” I said. “I’ll pass.”
