He Made My Wedding Dress Half a Size Too Small, Then Begged Chapter 05

“Who said the wedding’s off?” Liam’s face stiffened. “And the reception dress? Emma returned that

Maggie nodded, clearly confused. “Didn’t Emma tell you? Her order’s been cancelled. She said the

wedding wasn’t happening.”

Every commission at Liam’s studio came with an order number for tracking and scheduling.

Mine had been number twenty. Back then, he’d picked it with stars in his eyes, saying twenty stood

for “two hearts, zero distance.”

“That’s impossible.” He abandoned all pretense of composure. “I told her I was only postponing it by one week.”

Maggie let out a long sigh, hesitating. Finally she said, “Maybe she just got tired of waiting.”

“One week,” he shot back.

“She waited three years, Liam. And what she got was a dress half a size too small. Three months of starving herself, only to find out you’d made it to Victoria’s measurements. A one-week delay… for her, that probably felt like the last straw.”

His frown deepened. His palms grew clammy.

It was true-the gown’s silhouette was designed to flatter Victoria’s body, so he’d patterned it on

her measurements.

Had he really been that blind to Emma?

He’d always put work first, every client ahead of her.

He thought he was keeping things professional-separating business from family, so no one could later claim Emma got special treatment.

That’s why he’d built the dress around Victoria’s frame. That’s why he’d let Emma take the blame to protect Victoria’s image.

He wanted to separate work and life. He just never realized how much it had cost her.

He tried to steady himself. But Emma shouldn’t have cancelled the wedding without telling him. Shouldn’t have returned the reception dress without a word.

“When did she cancel?” he asked.

Maggie checked the records. “Six days ago.”

Six days ago. That was the day Emma had been attacked online. The day he’d posted his statemen to clear Victoria’s name. The day he’d switched the bride’s name on the invitation.

Normally, Emma would have bombarded him with messages, demanding an explanation. But that day-silence. Not one single text.

He’d given the dress to Victoria. No reaction from Emma. He’d postponed the wedding. No fight.

Something slipped through his mind, just out of reach,

She hadn’t said nothing.

She’d said something.

But he couldn’t remember what.

His heart hammered as he dialed her number.

One. Two. Three.

All went straight to voicemail.

He stormed into Victoria’s studio and pulled her outside. “Emma won’t pick up. Can you reach

her?”

Victoria tried. The line rang twice and disconnected.

Emma had blocked both of them.

Victoria put on her wounded act, her eyes glistening. “Liam… do you think she’s upset about the dress and the wedding? Maybe you should give the gown back and we should annul the license. I don’t mind getting dragged-really.”

Liam frowned but said nothing. The initial panic faded, replaced by a quiet certainty.

He convinced himself Emma was just throwing a tantrum over the dress.
