He Loves The Ancient Soul In My Body Chapter 09

“I thought we spent five happy years together. I didn’t realize the whole time you were just using

me as a substitute for another woman.”

“I didn’t do anything wrong. So why am I the one who has to suffer?”

“Christopher, I’m a duchess. Why should I sacrifice everything for you? Do you think that’s fair to

me?”

Christopher opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

Charlotte wiped her face, turned around, and walked away.

“Where are you going?” Christopher asked before he could think.

Charlotte didn’t look back, her voice firm.

“Back to Eldoria. I don’t belong here. If you don’t love me, then there’s no reason for me to stay.”

“But the seven-star conjunction just passed. You can’t go back.”

“Then I’ll wait.” Charlotte stood in the doorway, her small back looking strong and stubborn. “I’ll wait for the next conjunction, or I’ll wait until I die.”

The door slammed shut.

Christopher stood there frozen like a statue.

He slowly crouched down, picked up the fallen photo from the floor, and pulled the picture out.

In the photo, Emily smiled beautifully, her eyes curved and lips turned up. It was taken on their

wedding day.

He suddenly remembered his vow on that day, staring at her face.

“I, Christopher Bennett, swear that if I ever cheat on my beautiful wife Emily Harrison, may I be struck by lightning.”

He didn’t cheat, but he sent her away himself. That was worse than cheating.

Christopher pressed the photo to his chest, crouched on the floor, and sobbed like a child.

Back in Eldoria, I sat next to William, listening to him tell me about everything that had happened

over the past few months.

He stopped midsentence and looked at me.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Nothing.” He smiled and reached out to brush the hair from my forehead. “It just doesn’t feel

real.”

I took his hand and laced my fingers through his.

“How about now?” I squeezed his fingers. “Does this feel real?”

William looked down at our joined hands, the corners of his mouth slowly curving up.

“It feels even less real,” he said.

I was about to laugh when I felt a strange ripple in the air around me.

It felt like wind blowing in from every direction, and a faint light appeared in the air.

William went on alert immediately and pulled me behind him.

The light grew brighter and brighter, and then a voice appeared in the air, Christopher’s.

“Emily, I regret everything. I never loved Charlotte. I loved your face.”

“I just loved the way you were when you were eighteen. I loved having an innocent young girl in your skin.”

“I was too slow to realize it, but the person I really loved was always you.”

William suddenly held my hand tighter. “Emily…”

But I looked through that light and shook my head, my voice steady. “Christopher, I don’t love you

anymore.”

“If I had a choice, this time, I choose to stay in Eldoria, I’m not going back.”

The light flickered violently. Then a heartbreaking wail, “No.”

“Emily, you can’t do this to me. You can’t be this cruel.”

“I love you. I can’t live without you…”

The light grew dimmer and dimmer, and the voice faded. Then it snapped like a taut string.

The light disappeared, and the air returned to normal, as if nothing had happened.

I stood there and slowly lowered my hand.

William had been watching me the whole time, his expression complicated. He seemed nervous when he asked, “Are you really not going back to him?”

I reached up, hooked my arms around his neck, and smiled at him. “You haven’t crowned your queen yet. Where would I go?”

William froze for a moment, then smiled.

This time, he didn’t say anything else, he just lowered his head and kissed me.
