He Loves The Ancient Soul In My Body Chapter 01

He Loves The Ancient Soul In My Body Chapter 01

After five years of living in the past, I finally returned to my own time.

My husband, the man I thought had loved me all these years, looked at me with disappointment. “You’re back. What about her?”

I froze for a moment and immediately understood who “she” was.

She was the woman from the past who had occupied my body for five years. Charlotte Fairchild.

I swallowed the sadness rising in my chest and explained, “She’s a duchess. She has a husband who loves her. She should go back to her good life.”

Christopher Bennett could barely hide his disappointment, but he nodded and accepted it anyway.

I thought our lives would go back to the way they were before. But Christopher threw himself headlong into the study of the occult.

The house filled up with all kinds of antique artifacts.

Even the books piled on his desk were filled with the phrases like “time travel” and “consciousness transfer.”

I thought he was just curious about ancient life. But then one night, after he got drunk, Christopher broke down sobbing and confessed the truth.

“I have to travel back. I have to find Charlotte. She said she never wanted to leave me.”

“She must be crying her eyes out, being suddenly sent back like that. And I don’t trust any other man to take care of her…”

In that moment, I just watched Christopher rave in his drunken stupor.

He had no idea that I also wanted to travel back, to spend the rest of my life with the man I had called my husband for five years.

“Okay, you’re drunk.” I said.

The third time he started rambling, I finally couldn’t take it anymore. I stepped forward to steady him.

But Christopher shoved me away and stared at me with suspicion.

“You’re not Charlotte!”

“What do you want? Why are you trying to stop me from finding Charlotte?”

“Do you know how scared Charlotte gets of the dark? If she can’t see me, she’ll cry…”

I really wasn’t Charlotte. I was Emily Harrison, the true owner of this body.

I sighed and turned to clean up the cluttered desk.

Seeing what I was doing, he suddenly lunged at me like a startled animal and blocked my way.

“Don’t touch my things! Are you trying to destroy all this so I can’t travel back to find Charlotte?”

I stood there frozen, staring at him in disbelief.

He was like a mother bear protecting her cub, clutching the pile of research materials he had spent so long studying.

Christopher had always been a history professor, specializing in ancient civilizations.

So when he found out that an ancient duchess had taken over his wife’s body five years ago, his first reaction wasn’t to find me.

Instead, he observed patiently and treated Charlotte, the woman living inside me, as a fascinating research subject.

But as time passed, he fell in love with her.

He had always been so cold and composed. Even when his own parents died in a car accident, he had never lost control of his emotions, until now.

I stared at Christopher for a long time, then sighed.

“I wasn’t trying to destroy anything.”

“Christopher, I’m back now. We can finally have a good life together. Don’t you want…”

He cut me off.

“That’s enough. What’s the point of saying all that?”

“Even if you have the same pretty face, you’re not her!”

He pushed me harder than intended. I stumbled back a few steps and nearly hit the corner of the wall.

When he saw how pale I had gone, guilt flashed across Christopher’s face. He came over and grabbed my shoulders.

“Emily, I didn’t mean to snap at you… I just…”

“I understand.”

I cut him off with a bitter smile. “You just want Charlotte to come back.”

“I get it. I’m not mad at you.”

“After all, the person who spent those five years with you wasn’t me. It was another real, living person.”

“Hearts aren’t made of stone. You didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t blame you.”

The tension in Christopher’s grip slowly faded.

He just stared blankly as I turned and walked away.

Maybe he was surprised.

Five years ago, Emily Harrison wanted the best of everything. She wanted everything clean and perfect.

She demanded that Christopher love her and only her, with no exceptions.

I used to be fiercely protective of our relationship.

Back then, if Christopher so much as added a female student’s contact information, I would give him the cold shoulder for three days.

Because of that, I conditioned him to keep very strict boundaries. Besides teaching, he barely talked to any other women.

But five years later, I watched Christopher fall in love with another soul living inside my own body.

And I accepted it without a fight.

“Emily, I… I do love you. You’re so beautiful.”

“It’s just that I met a completely different woman underneath the same face. I couldn’t help myself. I fell for her.”

Christopher’s voice still came from behind me, but I shook my head and put on some rock music.

I just wanted to drown out the chaos in my head.

What Christopher didn’t know was that while he was drunk and crying for Charlotte.

I was also remembering my life in that other time.

Back then, I was known as Charlotte Fairchild, the famous Duchess of Crestwood in that kingdom.

And I had a husband too. His name was William Ashford.

He was gentle, refined, powerful, and always proper.

At first, he was Charlotte’s husband.

But just like Christopher.

After five years of living together day and night, I couldn’t help falling in love with him.

Charlotte was known as the most talented woman of her time. She excelled at piano, painting, and poetry. But the moment I arrived in her body, William could tell something was wrong.

On our wedding night, he grabbed my wrist and asked, “Who are you? You’re not Charlotte.”
