He Loves The Ancient Soul In My Body Chapter 08

He Loves The Ancient Soul In My Body Chapter 08

Meanwhile, in the Kingdom of Eldoria…

The moment I landed, I smelled blood, thick and strong.

I opened my eyes and found myself standing in the middle of ruins.

This was the royal palace of Eldoria, I recognized it.

But it looked nothing like I remembered it.

It was as if a war had ended, and everything was still waiting to be rebuilt.

The air smelled like decay and death.

My heart sank.

When I left, the rebel militia had just broken into the city, William used his body to protect me and get me out, then found the court mage to help me transfer back.

It was chaos back then, but the palace wasn’t destroyed like this.

What happened?

“Who goes there?” A sharp shout rang out as several soldiers in armor ran out of the shadows and pointed their spears at me.

I instinctively raised my hands. “I’m here to find William Ashford.”

The lead soldier frowned and looked me up and down. “You’re looking for the King? Who are you?”

The King? I froze.

William became king?

When I didn’t answer, the soldier pushed his spear closer. “Speak up, or you’ll be taken into

custody.”

I snapped back to reality and spoke quickly. “My name is Emily Harrison. I came from outside the

palace. I need to see William. Please tell him I’m here.”

“Emily Harrison? Are you sure that’s your name?” The soldier’s face suddenly changed.

He exchanged a look with his companions, then lowered his spear, his tone becoming much more

polite. “Wait here, miss. I’ll go report this at once.”

A few moments later, the soldier came back, out of breath and wearing an expression of disbelief.

“Miss… His Majesty requests your presence.”

I took a deep breath and walked inside.

The hall was very empty, almost nothing in it.

A throne sat in the middle, but no one was sitting on it.

I looked around, then heard a voice from the side hall. “Come in.”

My heart started pounding, but my feet carried me in that direction.

The door to the side hall was slightly open, so I pushed it.

Inside was a study with bookshelves lining the walls filled with scrolls and books. A single oil lamp burned on the desk, its flame flickering gently.

A man stood with his back to me, looking out the window.

He wore a black robe, his long hair tied back with a leather strap. His figure was tall but thin.

At the sight of his back, my nose suddenly stung.

“William.”

The man slowly turned around.

I saw his face clearly.

He had lost a lot of weight, his cheekbones stood out, and there were dark circles under his eyes, as

if he hadn’t slept in days.

And there was a new scar on his left cheek.

When he saw me, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief. “Emily?”

I nodded, my eyes already red. “It’s me.”

“What… what are you doing here?”

His voice was shaking. “Didn’t the mage send you back? Aren’t you supposed to be in your peaceful

world? Why are you…”

He stopped midsentence, then his eyes widened in understanding. “You came back on your own? Did you travel through time again?”

I said yes, tears falling down my face. “William, I missed you.”

Just those four words. William’s whole body trembled.

He stared at me for a second, then pulled me into his arms and held me tight. “You’re crazy.”

His voice was muffled above my head. “Do you know how dangerous it is here? The rebel militia has

been suppressed, but there are still remnants hiding in the shadows. Anything could happen.”

“I don’t care.” I buried my face in his chest, smelling his faint herbal scent mixed with the smell of

blood, and cried even harder.

“You used your own body to save me and send me away. I should have stayed. William, I’m not leaving again. I’m never leaving again.”

William held me tightly and sighed.

After a long time, he pulled back slightly, cupped my face in his hands, and wiped my tears away with his thumbs, over and over.

His gaze was so serious, like he was looking at a treasure he had lost and found again.

He touched my face and said, “I always wondered what you really looked like. I never expected you

to be so beautiful.”

I froze for a second, then couldn’t help but laugh. I was still crying, so I probably looked like a mess.

Charlotte was a duchess, but she had a freckled face.

I finally realized after we returned to our own bodies. To stay pure for Christopher, Charlotte deliberately caused a scandal.

She spread rumors that she had an affair with her bodyguard. That made William divorce her.

Now, William could openly make Emily his queen.

Meanwhile, back in the 21st century, Christopher was drowning in regret.

Early that morning, Charlotte walked out of her bedroom and saw Christopher tearing through the

house.

“Christopher… what are you looking for?”

Christopher didn’t even look up. “Looking for the mage’s contact information. Can the rune stones still work? The seven-star conjunction just passed. Maybe another one will come soon. I have to

find her.”

“Find who?”

“Emily. My wife, Emily Harrison.”

Christopher’s voice came out as a raw shout, his eyes bloodshot. “I regret it, Charlotte. Do you hear me? I regret everything.”

Charlotte froze, the framed photo in her hand nearly falling to the floor. “What… what did you say?”

Christopher’s eyes were rimmed with red; he hadn’t shaved and looked haggard and broken.

He looked at Charlotte’s freckled face, then covered his own eyes.

“I never loved you.”

His voice came out from between his fingers. “I loved your innocence. No, I loved that your innocence reminded me of Emily when she was eighteen. The person I loved from start to finish was my wife.”

Charlotte stood there, her expression shifted from shock to pale, from pale to bitter.

She let out a quiet laugh. “Christopher, did you ever think about how I would feel when you said that?”

Christopher froze.

Charlotte set the photo down on the table, wiped her tears, and looked up at him.

“I ruined my own reputation for you. I made sure the King of Eldoria divorced me, just so I could come to you clean. And what do you do?”

She pointed at her own face.

“You think I’m ugly.”
