He Locked Me in an Oven for Her, So I Called My Brother to Bury Them Both Chapter 05

The entire roomful of people went weak in the knees at the sight of the mercenaries storming in. Their legs gave out beneath them.

They trembled and turned, then collapsed almost instantly when they saw who spoke.

I caught sight of the man I’d waited for through the small window and broke into a sob.

Asher stood stiff, his body shaking uncontrollably, yet he refused to turn around. He banged on the glass of the small window. “Callie, what kind of trick are you trying to pull now? You think hiring actors to scare me will work? Since you won’t apologize, I’ll…”

He never finished. A cold gun pressed to his head.

He fell silent at once and turned around shakily.

The moment their eyes met, Asher’s legs gave out, and he crumpled to the floor.

“Wyatt… y-you… weren’t you turned into a human stump three years ago…?” He stammered, his Adam’s apple bobbing with obvious panic.

My brother’s name struck fear into both the light and shadow worlds.

After our father died eight years ago, the Griffin family business was almost devoured by so-called relatives.

They even drove Wyatt and me out of the Griffin Estate. Afraid that we might come back to claim the family fortune, those people pulled plenty of dirty tricks behind our backs.

Forced into a corner, Wyatt took me into the underworld. For those three years, he barely had an inch of unhurt skin, old wounds constantly covered by new ones.

Three years later, just when everyone thought we were long dead, Wyatt reclaimed the Griffin family with an iron fist.

Everyone who had turned against us met a brutal end.

In just a few months, the Griffin empire rose to unprecedented power.

As the prominent target, many tried to set us up, but all suffered disastrous, double retaliation.

Since then, the Griffin name dominated all of Acoland, and Wyatt became legendary in both the underworld and legitimate society.

No one dared to touch the Griffin family ever again.

As for Asher, he came from nothing. He only reached his status because Wyatt built him up from scratch.

Because I loved Asher, Wyatt held Asher to stricter standards than anyone else.

That was why Asher both resented and feared Wyatt.

Wyatt ordered men to break open the heat chamber door while pressing the gun to Asher’s head. “Disappointed to see I’m alive?”

His voice was low, but carried a chilling dread.

Asher swallowed hard, his vocal cords trembling. “Of… of course not. Wyatt, when I heard the Griffin family was attacked, I brought men right away. But I was too late… I heard you… you’d been turned into a human stick…”

“For three years, I visited your grave every year. I protected Callie with everything I had, never let her suffer a single wrong…”

Before Asher finished, a thunderous crash split open the heat chamber door.

The wave of scorching air made him flinch hard.

Wyatt’s gaze turned ice-cold at the carnage inside.

He pressed the gun hard to Asher’s temple and kicked him again and again. “Asher, do you have a death wish or something?”

“You swore you’d never let Callie suffer. Then explain to me why she was tortured like this?”

“Just because she couldn’t stand the sun, just because your mistress faked heatstroke, you dared to do this to her? Did you really think I, Wyatt Griffin, was some kind of pushover?”

Two sharp gunshots rang out.
