He Locked Me in an Oven for Her, So I Called My Brother to Bury Them Both Chapter 01

He Locked Me in an Oven for Her, So I Called My Brother to Bury Them Both Chapter 01

When I was eight months pregnant, the nanny’s daughter suddenly came up with a special “prenatal care plan” for me.

She ordered me to sunbathe for six full hours every day outside in 110°F heat.

I was roasted to the brink of a miscarriage. I begged her to open the door and let me back inside.

But she just ate iced watermelon and smiled sweetly, “Mrs. Brooks, sunbathing is good for pregnant women. I’m only doing this for your own good.”

The door was locked tight, and no other servants dared to open it.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I grabbed a flowerpot and smashed through the terrace window.

An hour later, Asher Brooks, my husband, rushed home from a meeting and snapped at me the second he walked in.

“Callie, how could you be so vicious! Do you have any idea you hurt Khloe so badly with your tantrum that she’s in the ICU from heatstroke?”

“Asher, you have time to pity a nanny’s daughter but not your own wife and child. Another minute of me out in that sun, and the baby inside me would’ve died!”

Asher gave me an unreadable look for a moment, then turned and left without a word.

But soon, that night, I was dragged out of bed and locked inside an iron-walled industrial heat chamber.

Dozens of Khloe Cortes’s relatives crowded outside.

Asher put his arm around Khloe’s waist and watched me coldly. “Callie, you’re cruel and unrepentant. Today I’ll stand up for Khloe and get back at you for what you did!”

My heart sank, and I lost all hope in him.

I grabbed my phone and called my brother Wyatt Griffin without hesitation.

“Wyatt, take down the Brooks and Cortes families. Leave none of them alive.”

…

The moment those words left my mouth, the crowd of Khloe’s relatives outside went deathly pale.

But Asher just scoffed.

At his dismissive laugh, the crowd caught on and burst into mocking laughter.

“Mrs. Brooks, do you still think you’re some mafia princess? Your brother was chopped into a human stick long ago. Who are you trying to scare?”

“Yeah, if Mr. Brooks hadn’t taken pity on you, you wouldn’t even be fit to clean Khloe’s shoes!”

As the insults rained down on me from the outsiders, Asher just stood there with a faint smile curling at the corner of his lips. He didn’t say a word in my defense.

He pulled Khloe close and walked slowly to the small window, tapping the glass in front of me. “Callie, are you hot yet? Do you know where you went wrong?”

A red thermometer on the iron wall read 120°F.

The chamber was stifling like hell, and my skin burned bright red.

Even gasping for air, I felt sharp stabs in my chest, suffocating me nearly to death.

Sweating profusely, I hoarsely said, “Asher, what’s wrong with wanting to get out of the sun and into an air-conditioned room? If I hadn’t forced my way in, your baby would already be dead inside me!”

I was about to keep talking when a sharp, crippling pain shot through my belly from the scorching heat.

The baby kicked violently, and I crouched down in a ball, screaming. “Asher, let me out now! It’s too hot in here, the baby can’t take it! You were the one who wanted this baby more than anything!”

Asher looked down at my belly, his eyes dark and unreadable.

Watching his reaction, my heart turned cold bit by bit.

I had a weak constitution. I’d been pregnant five times before, and every single one ended in miscarriage.

Each time I lost a baby, Asher had been so grief-stricken he’d been ready to kill.

This time, I’d taken every precaution to carry the baby, and I’d finally made it to eight months.

Once I’d made him a birthday cake, the heat from the stove made the baby kick nonstop. He’d been so angry and worried that he’d stayed by my side all night.

But now, over Khloe’s so-called heatstroke, he’d locked me inside this heat chamber.

My chest ached bitterly, and I gritted my teeth to speak when Khloe swayed weakly, her voice frail. “Asher, please let Mrs. Brooks out. She’s been sheltered her whole life; she can’t bear this. It’s not her fault, it’s mine. I’m just a nanny’s daughter. Even if I die from heatstroke in this heat, I deserve it…”

Rage boiled inside me.

Minutes after I smashed the window, she’d turned and gone back to the bedroom, even telling a servant to bring her half an iced watermelon before she left.

I was the one who’d baked in the sun for hours, nearly dying of heatstroke!

My eyes bloodshot, I stared daggers at her, about to shout when Asher slammed his fist against the window.

His voice turned icy, “Raise the temperature 10°F. She’s too sheltered to handle heat, is she? Today I’ll make her pay for every bit of Khloe’s suffering!”

He tenderly stroked Khloe’s hair, his eyes overflowing with affection. “I know you’ve been wronged. You were only trying to help her with the pregnancy, and she nearly got you killed. Go on, Khloe. You turn it up yourself. Let’s see her dare say a single word against it.”

By the time Khloe returned, the red thermometer on the iron wall read 140°F.

She’d cranked it up 20°F!

The heat chamber turned into an inferno in an instant, and I felt like I was being fried alive in oil.

My dress was soaked through with sweat, clinging heavily to my swollen belly.

The baby’s frantic kicks were nothing but desperate cries for help.

For the baby’s sake, my throat raw as if on fire, I hoarsely apologized, “I’m sorry, Asher. I know I was wrong…”
